Trying to upgrade from a 1031, bidding on this, but what do you think it will take to fix?

Sony crt projector vph-1272q multiscan.

I called a repair shop they came over to check it out and told me that the CRT tube mechanism has to be replaced on the blue tube.

Prior to this it was in great working condition, now when you power it up it kicks in for a few seconds and shuts down. (the same as if the small fan is not working and it it will shut down.) Repair person told me that the system sences that one of the buld's mechanisms (blue tube) is not working correctly and has to be replaced.

Thanks.

Ok, got my 1272q off ebay for $20 and now have it at home, as soon as I hit the on button it clicks on for a split second and I see 'ER' very quickly on the status light and next maybe C12, but it goes off very quickly, I see the fans start to move. What do you recommend I do next to try to get the error code to stay on? I am looking at the wonderful info Curt has but i am not a electrical engineer, any direction is appreciated. Thanks.

Hey, you were already corrected over at avs for calling it a bulb, now you do it again.

BANNED! Sad

Just kidding. Your blue tube is bad, it's lost it's vacuum. Good new ones are hard to find, I do have some mediocre ones for $50 plus shipping.

Yes, disconnect the red HV lead and the socket at the back of the tube, and the G and R tubes should fire up fine.

Try disconnecting all of the tubes, red HV leads and CRT sockets only, leave all other wiring intact. See if the set will stay on.

well the g and r hv leads pulled out of the connectors, verry tight on the transformer, and pulled the crt sockets off, turned on and went thru some relay clicks, said 82 and 8A, then ended at error 6. Thanks.

Did the leads pop out, or is there still a metal tip on the ends of the red leads? If there's no metal cap on the ends of the leads, then you need to try and fish them out of the HV splitter, or I can send you new ones along with an HV splitter.

You now most likely need to swap boards or send me some to be tested. I'd start with the two boards over the tubes on the flip up hinges. You might also consider buying a complete working 12XX with toasted tubes off me for cheap, as it might be easier to swap your tubes out into my set if yours are in really good shape.

I'll try seeing if anything obvious is disconnected and clean it up a little first. I need to see what the tubes look like, since it never powered up I wasn't able see what they look like. I do smell a little burning when I powered it up without the red leads and the tube sockets off. By the way, how bad is shipping to Detroit? (48138) or cheaper to pick-up in windsor? Thanks. I'll have to make do with the 1031 for a while longer.
