Are these VGA to RGB China cables any good? The one I picked up looks like all the other cables I have seen. Is there any way to test it?

Thanks, Deron.

Maybe a test with a multimeter set to resistance test on the scale the cable is meant for, 75 ohms unless I am mistaken.

Hook it up and see how it works. Very Happy

You can measure what is resistance of signal cables (red pin to red pin etc.), but it just tels if they have used super thin crappy cable or if there is problems with connections. If resistance is more than 0.2 ohm more what you get with bare measuring cables connected together there is some problems.

If you want something more specific, you need signal generator and scope.

There should not be 75 ohm resistance between R/G/B and ground or in any cable or it's broken.

If cable is connected to projector, then it's another story...

Wait a minute, you mean there is something not made in China--other than my wife?

Grrr, I love Oriental Wimmen. Very Happy

For testing the cable, I would check Mike Parker's Marquee Maintenence Thread II. It guides you through the test patterns for checking how good a cable is.

Videogon has a good deal on a 3' VGA to RGBHV bettercables.com cable. $29. I bought one and it arrived yesterday.

Wow, I was expecting, what's wrong with you, any cable that does not have a "Name" on it and cost $$$ is crap, well at least from one person.

This cable was from Willy's Electronic Supply, they seem to carry pretty good stuff. 75 ohm, has the RFI beads at each end, 25' long for $45.00.

Yeah, I will take a look at Mike's information.

Thanks, Deron.

I scored a quantity of enormously fat 2 or 3 meter RGB cables for a buck a pop. I'm not sure what good an RGB cable is without sync for HT use, but it was too good to pass up. The things weigh about half as much as my 808s.

Also got a few RGBHV to DB9 - not sure what the pinouts are though.

Perisoft,

If the cables have BNC's on the end you can use them to connect sources to the projector by just adding two lighter cables for sync

The China cable seems OK, tested it up against a couple of other cables I had and did not see any difference in the image.

If you have 2 of them you could use 1 for the RGB part and 1 for the H/V part, you will end up with 1 cable doing nothing but it will save some money.

I was thinking about running smaller cables for the sync. Anybody know if there's likely to be much quality difference between these huge mother fat cables (which I'm guessing were made for fixed sync workstation monitors) and more normal ones? And if running two 3m cat cables with BNC interconnects to join them would retain any advantage... I know that interconnects usually murder the signal, but BNC might be a bit different in that regard?
