I've concluded the problem is as listed in
http://www.curtpalme.com/docs/ElectrohomeMarqueeTechnicalBulletin_TBC94-11.doc'
and is related to HV safety shutdown. It's never happened before but I've been playing alot of BioShock lately and run the B&C both at 60. I didn't and don't consider that excessive going by TBC94-11. The brightness adjustment within the game (no gamma adj damnit) is rather high at about 3/4 of the slider scale so I'm sure I'm pushing the pj anyway.
I know the simple answer is...quit doing that but I wanted to ask the non techs if they've performed the mod listed in the TBC, and if so, was it much trouble finagling the capacitor and resistor in series to C97. The SM's 'shouldn't' be much of a concern if I take my time.
NOTE: I haven't been able to get to the LED's in time to check for lit HFAIL or VFAIL leds so I can't rule out the need to address TBC94-3 deflection mods at this time.
I'll drop the C&B and the brightness in the game video controls to see if that fixes it; but if it still does it am I correct in applying TBC94-11?
If I do need to do the repair, does anyone have the parts on hand that can be put in a kit for me or do I have to take a confusing romp through Digikey?
Thanks!
Greg

Before you jump to conclusions, try reseating all of the boards and reseat the daughter boards. The HDM specifically can cause this problem.

Thanks for the reply Curt. No jumping here. I'm a prime specimen of inactivity.
That/those were the very first things I tried. I recleaned the card edges, reseated all the chips, cleaned the pins and sockets for the daughter boards, modified the way the cards are held up in the cages....but I'll check it all again. I'd much prefer to find I'd missed something than go through the time and expense of the upgrades.
EDIT:MY bad...I should have mentioned what I'd done already. I"m at work and took a minute to squeeze in the post.

Greg, what are the exact symptoms? Usually blinking is related to the CLM.
The TB you posted is from 1994, so 90% of the Marquee's that people own in this forum, likely already have the fix.

Ahhh...I didn't even think to check the date. Good call. I'll have to check and see if the rev I have has already got the updates.
The pj was on for about an hour when it started. Basically I'll be playing along and out go the lights. About 3-4 seconds later, the image comes back up slowly from very low output to normal. Then about 2 minutes later the cycle starts over again. I haven't run the pj since it did it. I've played the game before for many hours at the same settings and didn't have any problems. I'd just recently given it a good cleaning and reseated everything but that was weeks before the problem started, and about 30 hrs of game play later.

I'm not sure if it was the HDM as you say because I pulled all the boards and cleaned every contact I I could get to with Caigs. I also rerouted a few cables that were too close to the rear panel. I also cleaned the RCA's real good with Caigs and a toothbrush (new). I played for over an hour with C at 55 instead of the 60 it failed at, and B at 60, same as it failed at. No problems. It's probably my imagination but the pj menus and memory switching seemed to be faster too.
Thanks for the advice guys.

Well if the image comes back up slowly, then it may not have been the CLM which is usually a quick off and on again blink.
But yep, cleaning all the contacts really well, does speed things up a tiny bit.
If it fails at 60 but not 50, then I might consider the HVPS? I'm just reaching here, but that is what I would at least consider.
I just replaced my HVPS because I was getting some green bleed-through when the green was turned off. The new (used) HVPS fixed that right up.
