Well, couldn't help myself and decided to take the day off today and set up my new PJ. The blue tube has more wear and in a smaller area on it than I thought, so I'm hoping the one I picked up off ebay yesterday from Curt will bode a bit better. (For $10, I guess I can't complain however it looks!) - But it will be better than how it is now (can really see it in the last picture). Anyways, thanks to whomever of you wrote the mechanical setup guide on the site - it was a HUGE help.

Also thanks Doug for all your help, and in the end, I didn't think it was too bad setting it up with the Pronto. Guess with no frame of reference I have no way of knowing how much time I wasted Wink

Here are some pics, and no, I am not a Justin Timberlake fan (I've never even been IN the chat room!), it just looks really cool.

Will

Looks really nice, despite the JT content Wink

Do you have any pics of movies that most guys often use as reference like 5th element, LOTR, Shrek etc...? Yes, I know you just set it up, I'm just requesting.

I would love to see how something brighter and sharper looks with it. I will be getting a PG+ or Xtra soon <fingers crossed> and I have only personally viewed a Barco 801s and really want to see some more NEC PG/Xtra shots before I jump in.

Thanks,
Chris

Heh heh! too funny. I just spent a few minutes looking at some other posts and <blip> here, have some screen shots. VERY NICE! Smile

What are you using for a screen?

I feel much better about getting an NEC PG+ or Xtra now. I can't wait until it's my turn to post pictures. Mwa-ha-ha-ha!!! Twisted Evil

I'm really happy I got it - I'm sure you will be too! Aside from the bum blue tube I think I got a great projector that will last until I (again) get the urge to upgrade... Very Happy.

Good to hear you are happy with it. Smile I won't have to worry about a bum tube problem as I will get my projector from Curt so it will be full of near mint or new tubes if I can swing it. I'm not as willing to find and replace my own parts right now. Based on what others have told me I'll have my hands full just setting it up right the first time. Now that I've seen some good screenshots, I am really looking forward to it. Smile

What screen material are you using? I'm going to have to post in the construction section because I want a pull down screen and I'm trying to figure out what screen to get. Hopefully, it won't cost anywhere near the cost of the projector.

I'm just using blackout fabric painted with Kilz as some here have suggested. That's next on my list to replace. I think I'm going to go with the WilsonArt laminate. People seem to have had good luck with that. For a pulldown screen - there's a seller on ebay called AV liquidators- they seem to have TONS of screens that come off-rental and from AV houses. I've seen some nice screens go quite inexpensively so maybe keep your eyes open.

Good luck with whatever you get - obviously anything you get from Curt will be ready to go. I really wish I could afford one direct from the source. Someday!

Nice! If nothing else, the beauty of burnt EM focusing tubes is you still get to see how damn sharp that set is..Smile THat wear is typical for all NECs, the bad news is that new tubes are $695 from VDC, but if you do ever spring for new ones, you'll be good for 10K hours +.

Thanks Curt - I was in fact the guy who bought that Blue tube yesterday - you think that will improve the issue? (Obviously, I'll still take it either way!)

As for the sharpness - yeah, I really can't believe what a difference it is already. I'm trying not to tinker too much with the convergence now... I'd probably end up doing more harm than good. I will say this, after having the 1252, there is quite a learning curve in setting these up. But the results speak for themselves!

Will

Ok, that's even more impressive. Now that I look back, the very first picture shows some wrinkles in the top left. Still very nice. You're lucky to be able to use the Wilsonart. If I had a dedicated theatre room I would use it.

Have you tried a PC with it yet? If yes, how's the text look?

Cheers, Chris
