there's something wrong with my projector! i think... its a sony 2030q1
i noticed last night when i fired it up to watch Fast food nation that it looked so dark.. so i opened it up and fiddled with the G2 controls because i've been messing with those a little while ago.. so i turned them a bit.. then turned them back down. everything seemed ot go back to normal.. but i noticed the left side was not sharp like the other side.... take a lo ok at the photos. maybe somebody can help..
turned the contrast down on the red and green tubes so i could take photos of them.. the blue is pretty muche the same.. but you couldnt really see any blue in that particular screen..

ok.. not freaking out exactly, was a little bummed.. but i don't think anything is really wrong with it. sometimes these things can be confusing. i think it was just the movie i was watching. but it may have been running off the raster or something.

can't anybody help me? what would cause a projector do this? all three tubes are like this, that leads me to believe it's not the tubes themselves..
as long as it doesn't get any worse i'll be happy. at least until i get another one.

i assume that you're talking about the internal test patterns? (not using my dvd player or computer. i'm using a DVDO line doubler.) i just tried the internal test patterns and its sharp as can be!

If the test pattern is ok then that probably rules out a horz. problem so its either an input or video processing problem. What is your connection to the projector and components. Need more info.

sorry, i'm using a DVDO V2 iscan plus line doubler.. using Svideo to my LG DVD player... SVideo to my powerbook and composite from my composite VCR. the projector has a 25 pin proprietary SCART connector.. i have an extron 25 pin to RGBS breakout box/cable thingy.. going from there i have a RGBHV BNC to VGA using a T connector to go to the S on the extron cable to combine the H and V syncs ... the line doubler has a VGA.. i'll take pics if you need me to. thanks for helping.

Are you tweaking electronic focus at the same time as G2? They work together in some respects........

When you say composite video also, do you mean your projector has connection for composite also and your connecting a component to that directly?

i'm not turning the G2s and the focus simultaneously, but i've been adjusting both of them.
yes, i'm connecting my VCR directly to the projector with it's built in BNC composite input. not using my line doubler.

Ok. You have verified its internal, and since the test pattern is good have eliminated horz. or hi voltage. G2 and focus should not cause dark distorsion on side of pic, therfore its probably a video processing problem and can be very difficult to trouble shoot. Your decision now is to either try finding the problem yourself (must be electronic knowledgable), swap boards (finding them or ask Curt) or have it looked at by professional.Good Luck
