Here's a question for you eBay'ers:

There's a cheap item I want to buy using "BUY IT NOW" from a power seller (6000+ items sold) with 98.9% positive feedback but they don't list Canada as a country they'd ship to.

So I send them a question asking "how much to ship to my address". No response. So I sent it again 2 days later. No response. Likely just because they don't want to bother with Canadians but most people that don't list Canada don't have a problem since it's basically the same price. They just don't think of listing Canada...

So what if I just go AHEAD and buy it and then ask them "how much do I pay you now for the item and shipment?". What are the seller's options? Can they just cancel the whole thing and relist?

I'm putting together a kegging system in my bar (4 good taps with 8 kegs in the backroom in a temp controlled freezer) and want this to go above the taps to list what's "on tap". Nice beer signs with a perfect size ilike this are somewhat hard to find! This one's perfect for me!

Go ahead kal...at most he wont sell it to you, just do the buy it now and put in your postal code to figure shipping....at least thats what I would do and I'm 550 positive on fleabay

Just a couple of observations:

1) It IS more expensive to ship to Canada via US Post Office - I've never looked into anything else. But it doesn't matter that much, since the buyer pays shipping. The ground shippers (FedEx, DSL, etc) may be different.

1A) You can't get a "Delivery Confirmation" with USPS, which is a liability for the seller since he/she has no way to verify delivery. The ground shippers may be different.

2) The seller does have to fill out a custom's form - not that big of a deal for me, but maybe for others.

Yes Kal, they can cancel and re-list the item without getting charged additional listing fees. I guess the "danger" would be that he could give you a bad feedback rating if he is grumpy or something. But he would still have to ship it if that were the case.

If they accept your bid, but don't want to send across the border, I'll give you my US address and they can ship it there.

Another option if they really don't want to deal with the additional shipping hassle - just print the tag yourself using paypal, save it as a pdf and email it to them. There's no reason not to ship to Canada... Indonesia, maybe, but for a fine upstanding maple-leafer - there's no reason not to.

Now to the beer... 8 KEGS?! Sheesh. I've got some serious catching up to do (as usual)!

He probably doesn't answer your question because it's already covered in the auction. He list the US, but nowhere else. That's really pretty clear.

If your paying with PayPal, he'll most likely insist on shipping to you PayPal verified address only. Since that's not Curt's US address, that presents another problem.

I won't ship outside the US, but I sometimes ship to an alternate US address like Curt suggested. I think you should ask him about that.

Don't bid on it without getting approval first. That's a good way to get negative feedback.

I always ask if people are willing to ship to a Canadian address. I use a postal money order to pay them cashable at their local post office and ask them to ship US PS air mail. It's the least expensive way. No tracking number though so you have to cross your fingers.

In 7 years or so on ebay only 1 piece never showed and that was lost by UPS.

If you ship it to Curt's US address let them ship however they usually ship. I ship to a friends address in the US like that too and clear customs myself.

I have found that when they will not even e-mail you back it usually is not worth the trouble!!
often they have the account defaulted to only accept u.s. bids and if you change your address in your profile you end up with an unconfirmed mailing address. If you can bid- use another forum member as a drop, or use a commercial mail drop, thats what I like to do!! I also have a "mail to" address in Wa. state, if all else fails let me know and I will see what I can do when I go pick up my new (to me ) pre-amp

You should try Coopers Pale Ale, not only the best commercial beer made it is also the best home brew and the home brew wort is the same that they use for the commercial beer, Coopers are the biggest supplier of home brew ingredients in Australia.

Barry's got the right idea: It's all homemade beer. The 4 tapes will likely hold (for now): An average 'lager' beer, a german Hefeweizen (wheat), a british ESB/IPA (bitter), and a cream ale.

I'm sick of cleaning bottles. Time to start using kegs so I've been doing a lot of reading on this and what's what. Why room for 8 kegs? I want to have at least a couple of others 'lagering'. (Lagers need to sit at just above freezing for a few months to develop that 'clean' taste before drinking).

Beer gut? Working on it... Smile

I've got a pile of equipment on its way to me now... most of it should be here next week then I get busy.

remember to have him ship it usps not courier or you will get raped for "brokerage" fees, if they insist on courier you can find a standard customs declaration form and fax it to him to attach in triplicate to the outside of the box...just use USPS Very Happy

I just saw some Cornelius kegs ( 5 gallon soda) the other day that were fitted with Sankey couplings VERY nice.
All my small kegs are old pin lock(Coke), and I only bottle for mead,cider or barley wine.I am thinking of putting all of this years cider in a keg Very Happy

... cause I hate bottling

I no longer waste my time with Ebay sellers who won't ship to Canada. There's always a litany of self-rationalizing reasons and I'm sick of listening to them.

Off topic note on Canada - I was reading a youth atlas with my 5 year old the other day and found these facts out about Canada. That the population of California is about the same as Canada and that 70% of Canadians live within 100 miles of the US border
