I'm new to the forum and to the crt world. I found a 1031q on one of my many construction jobs. (i work for an insurance company) i hooked it up with help from a friend, I love it . just got a DVDO doubler for it haven't received my custom cable yet I just found another crt 722q1- I know that this is at the bottom of the barrel when talking crts. I would like to hook it up just for gaming." it runs" I was wondering if it is worth it or is the picture going to look grainy? also does anyone know how small of an image it will project? and If doing that will it make the image better and also how far does the projector have to be from the screen? I checked the manual and could not find it maybe I need some glasses also one more question I looked in on the green gun it looks like something is on the glass how can I clean it?

I am going to be of minimal help with your questions since I am fairly new to CRT projectors also. I just wanted to respond because I see that you are in Agawam, MA. I grew up in Agawam and graduated from Agawam High School. Small world!
The questions that you have about throw distance are almost always answered in the installation manual for the projector. This is primarily a function of the lenses that are installed. If the lenses are the same, or similar, to your 1031, perhaps you could extrapolate from the 1031 chart. What you see on the green tube may be what is called "Fungus". It developes in the cooling glycol in the chamber on the front of the tube. There is a very clear and detailed explaination of the cure on this site under "Advanced Procedures"

I haven't been in Agawam since LOOOOOOOONNNNNNNGGG before Six Flags took over. My favorite ride was that rotor-like thingy on the top of the building shortly after having walked in the front gate... the trick was to pick a piece of wall opposite an appropriately endowed young thang.
(Nobody who hasn't been to Agawam will have any clue what I'm referring to )
Sorry I can't speak specifically to Sony lore, but I believe the 722 is not worth bothering with. (video only, REEEAAALLY old, etc.)
Perhaps Curt, Terry, et al can chime in.

Somewhere there's a really good comeback using Agawam and Chicopee and Six Flags in the same sentence, but alas, since I'm a Canuck, it escapes me..
722- use on a small a screen as possible, say 5' or so, video only as said above, and 1984-1986 vintage. WE used the larger screen version, the 1020 on a 10' X 14' screen to show Wrestlemania 1 in 1986 to people that paid $25 to get into the theater, so yes, it can be used for gaming. I've got a few parts left over for it that you can have for hte price of shipping if you want.
