Hi,

I have some very light wear on my new G70 that I would like to try to even out. It looks like for the 349 hrs. that Kodak had this projector they ran the windows blue screen in 4:3 mode within a 16:9 area. The way I'm doing it now is with a desktop wallpaper I created in paint masking the wear area and a white field sorrounding it. then I bump up the contrast and defocus (electrically) the blue and green tubes. I also disconnect the red BNC to keep it from coming on. Does this sound like a reasonable way to do it or does somebody have a better Idea.

Thanks,

Erik

Is there a way to get a solid black window on the desktop, somthing that could be resized with the mouse and set up to cover the worn area of the tubes

Try this. If you search on the name "Burnfixer" or "Burn Fixer" either on this forum or AVS you should find the thread discussing this. It's a little Flash program. In the upper left hand corner there are two numbers you can change to adjust the H and W. They aren't visible though as they are white like the background. You can probably figure it out...just double click in the upper left hand corner.

I haven't tried it yet but looks like it would work. You could tweak your geometry settings to get it just right...

If you're experiencing uneven tube wear, it might be time to try a different position. (Sorry! I know that's stupid. I just couldn't help myself.)

Well,

I'm using it now and the only downside is that it has to be used on the primary display so I had to switch the G70 and my everyday monitor. Doing this somehow messed with the G70 and wiped out the recall memories. So I set it up with the rastors maxed and ran it last night. too soon to see if it will really help, but I have high hopes that it will.

You would think that it would just create a new recall memory...but Question Question Can you tell by looking at the CRT if the phosphors are now evenly burned? I've read that it doesn't take too long at 100% contrast so I wouldn't leave it unattended for too long... Shocked

Did you do this with the lenses on? I've considered two ways.

1-With the lenses off cut out and put a clear overhead slide over the tube and marking the CRT face with maybe a Dry-erase pen. Then adjusting the geometry to bring the burn edges into alignment with the pattern or...

2-leaving the lenses on and putting some tape on the screen to mark the burn edges for alignment with the pattern.

Do you think leaving the lenses on would be more accurate?

Hopefully your tubes aren't too burned and you'll be able to go back and adjust for a good gray scale once you even them up.... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I did it with the lenses on and the burn area marked out on the screen, I believe that this is more accurate as with the LC the wear is masked and harder to see. And also because the G70 won't power on with the lenses off and I've been too lazy to manually complete the lens circuit.
