1986 vintage Gretag Image systems (pre Ampro) units. Thomson tubes I believe. Who here is in SF?
I've got two nonworking ones here, the price is right to grab the parts out of those so I can get one of these 'collector's' pieces going.

Hehe
The description and mention of LCDs is from some other product entirely......
2-
The projector uses an offset electron gun to write to a LCD crystal, causing the crystal to gate light following the beam action. A second, mated electron gun forces the crystal to return to it's quiescent state at the same speed that the crystal was written, dramatically reducing smear. Unlike the reflective method used by similar projectors, Chromalux simply passes light directly through the liquid crystal and then to the lens, for minimum absorption by the crystal. As with other CRT-driven projectors, the Chromalux system is not matrix based and therefore does not have the limitations of a pixilated system. The Chromalux image can be geometrically shaped without loss of light or resolution, and is said to conservatively produce 3300 lines of resolution per frame, also with a large contrast ratio.
-from 2000
We messed with an Ampro light valve unit for a day back in 1994 or so; blacks were mid-gray at best but the sumbitch was bright......

Are those 9"ers? The lens don't look familiar, but they do look like 9" lens of some type?

Modified Aquarays. When Art Tucker got bought out from ESP he formed Chromalux and modified ESP Aquarays into what you see in the ad. He was a good scientist/engineer (and marine during WWII that hit several beaches in the pacific ocean) that had patents on liquid coupled CRTs.
The 2- reference has nothing to do with what's shown in the ad. The Chromalux light valve projector was something that was originally developed by Tektronix (oscilloscope fame) and picked up by Chromalux when dropped byTektronix.
I have the service manual for the projector in the ad and will share copies for anyone that is interested.
