Can HTPC's decode TrueHD yet?

I currently run an XA1 HD-DVD player and I love TrueHD soundtracks...if the HTPC could do high quality analog outputs of TrueHD, then I could get the benefit of 48Hz as well as gamma correction...this would cause me to really invest time and effort into HTPC again.

I'm not into HTPC for the HD playback because it's too damn expensive, but it looks like PowerDVD Ultra can do it:

Anyone?

You can't hear any difference between "TrueHD" and any bog-standard 44khz signal. It is, for lack of a better word, bull****. I refer you to the PeriSoft axiom:

a) As a discussion of audio quality regards quality of higher and higher proportion, the level of bull**** increases with the cube of the quality level being discussed.

b) Audiophiles are 100% full of sh*t.

Not trying to troll here, but just wondering if you've tried the TrueHD sound stuff vs regular DD or DTS?

I do not think Ben is so much concerned with getting the software player ti extract the bitstream for TrueHD, but rather getting it through the PC hardware.

AR, good question. I've tried to get people to ask themselves if they can hear the difference between blind testing on speakers, cables, amplifiers, processors, etc., etc., etc., or even if they have had their hearing checked (ever), and it is usually no, no, no, no, no and no.
