Phil I think you are 'stretching' the dick/boy one. Your comment made me uncomfortable.
I agree with the retarded one. Very derogatory to a special group of people. I just leave it as the author is also retarded - but miserable to boot - at least the kid in the picture is happy.
But here is a lob shot back. True story. A long haul trucker friend was looking for a warehouse to make his delivery. He was tired from the trip and pulled over to waive down a passer-by for directions. So the trucker asks the person if they knew of this street the warehouse was situated on. When he began speaking it was very evident that this person was mentally challenged and couldn't help him. Under his breathe (at least that was the intention) he mumble "ah fu*king retart" but it was inadvertantly overheard. The person snapped right back and said "OH yeah mister! I might be retarted but at least I'm not lost!". My friend rolled up the window and drove off with a new-found respect for special people. True story.

I'm confused. Are you being serious here?
If you really are offended by the image you probably wouldn't use what is itself considered to be an offensive label (retarded). I can appreciate your intention but this doesn't read well...
And yes, I'm probably being too PC but this term is all but extinct in respectful, professional communities which care for and assist such individuals.

hmmm. how how do I get myself out of this one..... The use of 'the term' (now I'm aftaid to use it) was in direct reference to the terms used in the subject matter (the image). Kinda like emphazing the point. The phrase "Very derogatory to a special group of people", "menally challenged" might suggest I have some sensitivity to the term. Not sure I'm as offended as much as feeling pity on the author (the creator of the image itself). It's not the word's so much; it's the message. For me, words are words. I know everyone doesn't think that way.
If you think these kind of terms (and I'm thinking of a lot worse) are extinct you haven't been in the lunch room with a bunch of respectful, and professional mental health workers.
Sorry for the confusion. I think you are being too PC and you think I don't write well. I'm ok with it. Let's agree we have same intentions.

In this case, I wouldn't call them respectful.
That said, I appreciate the response and it's clear are intentions are the same.

You are.
As long as that feeling is shared by the thread antagonist and he never again darkens our doorstep, I'll have succeeded. |
You're probably right. It's not really a PC thing for me, it's that the retard joke uses a pic. Without the pic I think the joke is funny. With the pic it's aimed at an actual person and that brings out the empathy in me. I can't help it, I don't like that.

Rod why do MY comments bother you and not the joke? It IS what I said it was: a dick joke with a pic of a little boy. I don't understand why a boy was used to begin with. An adult would have served the same purpose and wouldn't have the perv factor.
The dick joke without the pic is funny. With the pic it's all messed up.
But no big deal I guess. I'll move on.

Phil, The joke didn't bother me because I saw it as a joke. I had not made the inference that you had suggested. In retrospect I should have placed a wink on the end of the comment you are referring to.

We should stop "arguing over the internet"

Uhm, can a joke really be uncomfortable? (If you don't laugh is it then a joke?)

I agree with Phil on the tastefulness of the pictures..
My uncle has downs syndrome and while in this setting I did not find the picture offensive, I sure didn't laugh.. I actually think this was a net plus because it was awesome to see someone in the midst of all the dirty jokes stand up the second things seemed out of hand.
Thanks Phil..
The other one would be a lot funnier if it was a grown man looking down.. (think Jim Carey, or Will Ferrel) The little boy takes the fun out of what could have been a damn funny joke..
Now to go from bad to worse..
How do you keep a dog from humping your leg.
Easy... Pick it up and suck its Schvantz...
(or is it Schwantz? Like this Blonde, Blue eyed Kraut gives a chit anyway (my ww2 vet neighbor gives me chit every day.. Says he spent two years in Europe kicking the chit out of the Krauts to have one move in next door ? )

Ron, There's a young man up the street from me that has downs syndrome. He pretty out there and I think some the neighborhood is annoyed by him. I always make a point to be friendly with him.
I don't at all mind PI jokes, but like I mentioned, I do have a strong sense of empathy, and things that are directed at someone (or I perceive it that way) does bother me--at lot.

Man :"Doctor last night I got drunk and blew chunks."
Doctor:" That's your body's natural reaction to too much alcohol"
Man:" No, you don't understand!Chunks is my dog."
