I wanted to make sure everything was as described to me before I posted. I probably won't win a "You suck" because I didn't get a BG808 for $50 type deal, but here's what I did get for $1585 shipping included . . .

2 - NEC 9200 PG Xtras with BRAND NEW TUBES (see pics) and cool black paint job

3 - NEC Ceiling Mounts

1 - Remote

2 - Boards of some kind (can someone help me out?)

1 - Big-ass travel case

2 - Service Manuals

Had a hard time getting lighting for the pic of the tubes but they have ZERO visible wear. Not a trapezoid in sight on any of the 6! Sad part is, I'm taking the family to the Ozarks this weekend and I won't even get to play with them until next week Sad

OK, So I might not win a "You suck" but do I get an honorable mention?

I'll give you an honorable mention. Considering that the tubes were fresh & minty 8) The $50 Barco tubes did have a bit of wear so don't feel too bad!

However, that could be elevated to a "YOU SUCK" if you didn't have to drive too far to get it (or worse yet it was delivered).........

I didn't drive at all. That price included shipping. The last pics is of the pallet they delivered it on. Am I elevated?

Nope, you can't nominate yourself. THat's rule 452, subsection B.

You are however inducted to the 'CRT packrat hall of fame'. Seems to be these are projectors what, 4 and 5 since you got into this either late last year or early this year?

Congrats!

Wow, two identical PG Xtras. I was going to say they might make a nice stack, but in this picture, it clearly says "DO NOT STACK". Damn, too bad.

You only get a "YOU SUCK" for a G90, a 909 or a stack of 9500s. Wink

Bleed the tubes.

LOL Laughing

I lack the space, knowledge, and technical expertise to stack them anyway.

OK, Now you guys are screwing with me! I checked out the link and it says . . .

Air-coupled and liquid-coupled tubes look completely different. Remove one of the lenses and look at the tube. The glass surface in front of an air-coupled tube is flat while the glass in front of a liquid-coupled tube (called the c-element) is curved (see pictures below). An experienced user will be able to see the different without removing a lens at all.

Air-coupled tube (flat glass surface) Liquid-Coupled tube (curved glass surface, aka the c-element) Note: Half of the coolant has been removed to better show the curvature.

Alternatively, find your projector in the CRT Projector Specifications pages and check the "CRT Size/LC" column in the tables. Liquid coupled projectors will be marked by the characters "LC". Air-coupled projectors will only be listed by the tube size.

I pulled the lenses and the tubes in that NEC look just as flat as the tubes in my Barco 708 and My Sony D50 and My Sony 1272. I checked the projectors spec page and the NEC 9PG Xtra is just listed as 8" not 8"LC. I shouldn't need to bleed the tubes, should I?

Thanks for the "Pack Rat" induction Curt. Yeah, It's been about a year now. Time flys when your having fun.

Does anyone know what those 2 boards are and if they have any value?

I Disagree. I think a guy can suck w/ a pair of 8 inchers.

We need to see a finished product in order for ANYONE to "suck".

Once you are setup, give us proof that you have a superior display, and you too can "suck"

Nice score btw. Thumbs Up

Of course you have to bleed the tubes.

With air-coupled tubes there is also "glycol" in front of the phosphor, but it is in a chamber just behind the flat front glass. The purpose of this "glycol" is colling the phosphor.

The video was of an air coupled NEC GP3000 tube btw. PG tubes look pretty much the same.

LC tubes will have a "glycol" chamber behind the flat front glass, but in addition to that they have the C-element mounted to them, with yet another chamber filled with "glycol".
The "glycol" in the C-element is part of the first element of the lens (called the "C-element"). It does the optical coupling (usually referred to as liquid coupling). The glycol behind the flat front glass is for phoshor cooling.

about the boards:

the lower one is a System Board, but the number on it doesn't look like PWC-4045, so it wouldn't be for a PG Xtra
The number on it looks like "NEC PWC-3964", and that could be for the plain PG only.
You should tell us the exact number, and someone else will know a definitive answer.

You should bleed the glycol IF it needs it. NECs in particular seem prone to shattering the front glass due to excessive pressure in the glycol chamber.

With the lenses off, try standing the projectors up on their tails, so the glass in front of the tubes is level. If you see any air bubbles behind the glass, that tube doesn't need to be bled. If there are no air bubbles, it's a very good idea to bleed it. You might not have any problems if you don't bleed them, but you might end up with busted glass. Bleeding them is a bit of a pain but worth it if you plan to keep these things.

Yep, They didn't sell and I contacted him direct. He sold me one with the road case, remote, boards and manuals for $985 shipped. I asked him about the other one and he said he'd throw it in for $600 with no extra shipping.

I misread. I guess its the LC that is unaffected. I'll stand 'em up tonight and see if I need to bleed them.

OK Greg, I give up. I did a quick search and all I found was Forward Pricing Rate Proposal. What is FPRP?
