Thanks Gary, will do. My dad uses that same HDMI cable with his digital and it works great. That thing is like a garden hose!

Oh man, I have an itchy trigger finger for sure. Dam this Onkyo receiver, like you say the output is weak. I had a Monoprice switcher in the video chain just for voltage boost before but took it out after adding a power supply directly to my HD Fury. Currently I'm connected as follows:
Panasonic BDP-30K, Scientific Atlanta HD8300DVR, Toshiba A2 > Onkyo TXSR705 > HDMI to DVI adapter > HD Fury > VGA into RTC2200 VGA passthrough > VGA to 5BNC breakout cable to XG852.
I really want to go with the Moome card but I'm not sure I would be able to do it justice with my setup. |
I hear you.... me too, I am also a little conserned about the gamma range without a scaler. I don't want to lose that, but really don't want to invest in a VP-50pro + the Moome... OUCH!
Mike |
Just dropped in to see if there was anything new on the NDMI card...while I agree with everything Gary says, as far as improvement in all image areas...the card's Gamma adjustment curve just isn't correct.
With my XG, the farther down into the grayscale you go, the most blacks crush (I'd assume it's that way with all crt...just a matter of degrees)
So, to my way of thinking, the gamma adjustment should have an instant voltage raise at say... 2ire, then ramp down.
So a gamma adjustment system with two adjustments would be needed...one would set peak voltage (at the 2 ire), the other would set the length of the ramp...say from 10 thru 30 ire.
For my XG a high peak setting at 2 ire, ramping down, and ending at around 25 ire would be perfect.
Great card, and I do think it's well worth the cost, but again, it's gamma curve is not much help where it's really needed, and that's at 10 ire and below.

Hi folks,
I finally got a chance to fire some 1080p at my XG135LC (bought from Curt) last night from my Samsung blu-ray player. The initial result was terrible - on my 92" screen I had at least three feet of image foldover on the left hand side.
Using the position menu I tried to shift the image laterally on the raster to attempt to eliminate it, but I can't get rid of it entirely: I still have at least 2" of foldover on each side of the image. I had never used the Blanking function ever before, so then with it I discovered was able to "delete" the fold-over on each side ... without losing too much of the image I guess.
Now my problem is some rather serious streaking (better call it "banding") at times, dependent on whether there are any sharp transitions between light a dark areas of the video I'm feeding it.
So my questions are:
What is the cause of the streaking and is it related to the blanking changes I made ?
Was I taking the right route using the Shift and Blanking in the Position menu to correct the foldover ?
Is there any adjustments I need to make on Moome's card ?
I was surprised that the XG-FULLHD card did not come with a manual in the box ...I haven't found anything on Moome's site in the way of a manual, and Curt's site only has an FAQ type document... I have no idea how to set the dip switch or use the gamma/contrast controls, or how to select inputs so I am flying blind here using "plug and play" techniques !
ANY help appreciated. THANKS!
Dave

Dave,
Many people have had this issue with standalone BD players. First of all it’s not the fault of the Moome card. The Moome card only converts the digital signal to analog, it does not change the signal other then add some gamma boost. The reason for the fold-over is the timing signals out of all stand alone players that I know of are not correct for an XG so you have 3 options that I know of. The first 2 are not simple nor cheap.
* Use an external Scaler with user configurable porch settings…Expense option but the most versatile.
* Use an HTPC w/BR drive & PowerStrip that allows custom timing signals….A lot of trouble if your not into PC's.
* Run 1080i out of the BD Player to the XG.
There is more information in this thread.

The manual is in the FAQ thread you mention and this thread is the FAQ thread. See the first post of this thread for a link to the manual.

Hi everybody!
My name is Leonardo and I'm writing from Rome, Italy: first of all, sorry for my possible mistakes...!!!
I turned the contrast screw trying to resolve the banding issues: only today I found the manual and I read that I must be set by "Professional person"...
How can I get back to the correct 0.7V and where are the testing points for measurement??!?
Using a PS3 as a BD player, there's absolutely nothing to do to resolve the width/re-trace issues without using a scaler or a 1080i signal?
The image I got it's too much bigger than the raster size at 94%, maybe 1 meter greater than the 2.5 meters screen...
Thank you in advance for any help!!!

hi, Leonardo:
the way to recover for 0.7V, please prepare a meter, to measure C203 two node, it should be 0.90V,
if not please ajust the contrast pot.
and XG-FULLHD no width function on it, you need adjust on XG manu!

Sorry if could seems a stupid question but, where is the "C203 two node"? On the Input Card or is a testing point on the projector??!?

Yes, the only way to obtain the right image size with the PS3 was to use 1080i resolution...
But it looks great and every issues about re-tracing and orizontal banding it's definitly disappeared!!!
Best Regards! Leonardo!

Does anyone know if the DVDO Edge will correct this problem of Image Wrap and streaking? I have finally picked up a Sony BDP-S550 and have an NEC XG-135LC and Moome HDMI Card for it. I am hoping that the DVDO Edge will work fine by changing the sync rate and I won't need the VP50Pro.

Finally installed my moome card into my XG135LC .All sources fed through VP50 and the results are stunning. Had the projector calibrated by ISF tech. Worth every cent.

That's good to hear. Curious...Is your VP-50-non pro or a VP50pro?

Mike it is the non pro. I purchased it from the tech and he said for the minor differences the extra money for the pro was better spent on a good screen. The other plus is my projector is brand new. I purchased it from Stereo Exchange in new York in 2004.They had two units in the box unopened so it was very good to set up with no issues. As i just finished my new home with dedicated room this was first opportunity to set it up. It replaces my XG751G
Cheers Andrew

Okay, I think I'm finally going to bite the bullet and get this card. I have been enjoying my XG for about a year now and the only things I have left to do to it are 1) install an HDMI card like this and 2) have a professional calibration done. I would prefer to have the card in hand and installed before having any calibration work done so it's time to pull the trigger I guess. I love my current combo of the RTC2200/HD Fury and I don't want to mess up a good thing but I can't help thinking that this HDMI card will be a big improvement for me. My only real concerns are: 1) My Onkyo receiver may have issues powering the HDMI signal to the projector. 2) the gamma in the card might not be on par with what I'm used to seeing with the RTC2200 box. 3) If I don't have a scaler am I wasting my time using this card? So, for those of you that have already taken the plunge and are currently using the XG-FULLHD card, can you think of any reason that I might be better served in NOT going this route? My current setup consists of the following:
XG-852 projector
Onkyo TX-SR705 receiver
Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player
Panasonic BD30 BluRay player
Scientific Atlanta SA8300HD-DVR
RTC2200 transcoder with gamma
HD Fury (original version)
Signal path: sources>Onkyo705>HDFury>RTC2200>VGA to 5BNC cable>XG852
*All sources are connected via HDMI cable and routed into the Onkyo 705 HDMI switching receiver.
*I am currently using a power supply with the HDFury due to issues with the receiver not providing enough voltage.
Any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. This is an expensive piece of equipment and I want to be able to use it and my projector for a few more years at least.

I see this places is offering VP-50 (non-pro) refurbs for $699 + $25 shipping.
http://www.secondact.com/product/VP50RB/DVDO_iScan_VP50_High_Definition_Video_Processor__Refurbished.html?s_kwcid=refurbished%20vp50|1034268927&gclid=CLnh4pG1hpcCFQ89awod1nK1_Q
The cool thing about one of those are you could run 1920X817p easily for scope movies on a XG. Maybe something I could do with my tax refund in couple of months. I would actually consider dumping my HTPC at that point.

Oh, I think a scaler is way over my head technically Mike. I have avoided them but it seems many here use them. Would I not run into foldover issues running 1920x817p or is that just with 1920x1080? I have never tried anything but 1080i on my XG but if there is something that would work better then I'm willing to give it a try. If I did use that resolution for scope movies then how would I then view regular 16x9 stuff? Two entries?

Come on, somebody that has this card please tell me what to do! I'm weak right now, somebody either talk me down or push me over the ledge!

I have gone back and read this entire thread and I have to say I'm a little worried about some of the comments. I had forgotten some of Jerry's observations about having to turn brightness up to 80 and 90 initially and then down to 65 once he modded the card. That's still pretty high considering I like mine in the 48 to 50 range personally. I don't want to have to loose out on nice black level because I'm having to turn up the brightness so much. That coupled with the fact that KennyG claims the gamma curve is better suited to Sony CRT's makes me wonder if I might better leave well enough alone. I'm so confused...
