I just purchased a remote for a Barco Graphics 808 that I have. The remote is the model number (R791664) recommended in the service manual, but it doesn't seem to work. I was able to test the projector with a third party remote that Curt programmed for me with codes for a later model Barco Data 708s and that one does seem to work. (At least it turns it off and on which is all the projector actually does at the moment.)

From what I understand from Curt there are two sets of remote codes for Barcos, earlier models use one set and later models like my 708 (build year 2000) use another. So does this mean that even though I apparently got the right model remote, there are different generations of that same remote that uses different codes? I don't see how my BG808 can be considered a newer model, the sticker on it says that it was built in February 1996.

A final question. Does the BG808s use the newer remote codes? I don't know if this is relevant, but while the sticker on the case says it's an BG808 the flap over the built-in remote panel on the projector says BG808s. The tubes are definitely DVB22s. The projector was sold to me by a friend of the previous owner. According to the seller, the previous owner worked for Barco and had had them service it and implied they may have modded it as well. The seller had an 808s and the remote for his projector worked for mine as well.

Obviously, I'm confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi There,

The BG808s uses the same remote as the BD800 (bg801s too), so i'd say its the old style.

I've had three types of remote work with my BG808s, one was an old rcu800 that was flat and wide (very similar to the BD800 swing out remote at the back), the latter two types are long and thin (like the inbuilt BG808 remote under the flap) and have light up buttons, one with cursor keys the other with a rocker pad.

I also have a later BG6300 which is LCD and this has a compeltly different remote, its molded to the hand and the buttons light up red. It looks quite new, cyber and funky, well compaired with the old brick ones
This style certainly does not work my BG808s.

I could probably do some photos if needed.

I would guess that your projector code and the remote code is wrong as Ile mentioned....Although 0 is the most common code used as its the default, its not always the only solution. You can set the PJ's remote code with the dip switches on the controler board, the same way that you set the baud rate and if the pj auto powers on or goes into standby when it receives power. You need the PJ and the remote to use the same code, i would recomend checking the PJ is 0 and then setting the remote as Ile said.

Cya,
Lee

Yes it is. Very Happy

Projector will respond to rcu set to address 0 regardless of what address is set to projector.

A quote from the Barco FAQ on remotes .

Q: My Barco remote has stopped working, what has happened?
A: If it happened after you changed the battery (or removed the battery), the remote needs to be set-up to control the projector. The Barco remotes can control multiple projectors in a chain using addresses. The projector can be set to respond to a certain address only, using the dip switch's on the controller, what has been set does not matter as all projectors will respond to address 000. On the remote between the Adjust and Standby buttons is a recessed button you can press with a pen, press it and then press the 0 digit on the remote. The remote is now set to projector address 000 and the projector will now respond regardless to the actual address its set to. Alternately you can press the recessed button on the remote while aimed at the projector or screen and the projector will display its address (or bring up the Barco information screen from the menu to view the address), then proceed by pressing those numbers in sequence on the remote i.e. if the projector displays address 025 press 0 then 2 then 5 on the remote and it will be set to control a projector with that address, either way the remote will work again.

Nope - their are a few different models (yellow/green backlight) and different buttons (single multi - arrows) and also the ones that came with the retros (volume controls, etc)

They all work for all the non-Cine Barcos....
