I recently purchased a Retro BG 808s (the price was right Very Happy ) and it just got delivered by Mr Clarence.

It started as this:

But soon got parted out into this spare 808 case:

I also changed out the CPU and convergence tray. The convergence tray had a lot of different boards.

It looks fairly straight forward to install the tubes - some new holes in both the top and bottom part of the case and some spacers. Very Happy

The original and retro hole pattern:

Pete,

While Curt has said that he would be pretty lax with avatar rules, that didn't include you! You have to post one... and you know what Curt wants to see... Smile

Yup! I have the email to prove it was your idea! Smile

Of course, the email also states that you stated that putting together a forum is "quick and easy". Hmmm.... Methinks you're forgetting about all the ongoing support/pruning/backups/patching/moderating/etc. Smile

When I get done with the single parent (for a night) routine I am going to pull the HD component boards and take some pictures - I think I got three of the "optional" cards..

Don't get too excited there Petey, my Zenith (Barco) has the component input and it is just OK. Any of the decent component transcoders will do a better job.

I am getting some other transcoders to try (from Clarence) and will do a side by side comparison.

Right now - the picture looks very very nice. The only issue is that when first turned on - the PJ does not recogonize the component in - I have to press "8" for it to swap source.

I'm about to get a pre-production model of a new transcoder that I have very high hopes for. It will sell for less than the other good transcoders but I'm hoping it has excellent performance. I'll do a full review and a shoot out with moome's when I get it.

With the tri-level sync board, there are the inputs for port 4/5

4/5 on RCU - RGBHV (just like all other Barcos)
6 on RCU - R-Y, Y, B-Y with sync
7 on RCU - RGB Analog with tri-level sync or with tri-level sync on green
8 on RCU - Component video with tri-level sync.

Dave-

Let me know about the other transcoder...

6 - 480p
7 - sync ups but has a green cast - I call it the Pot source
8 - works perfect.

The funny thing is that the other ports find the signal - the HD component has to be told that it is there.

Pete,
Looking at the pictures. It seems that by using the LC top plate, the tubes are located in the same spot the original 808 tubes where, even though the LC tubes are shorter.
Did you have to do anything to the 808 bottom plate to mount the LC tubes? shims, re-drill holes in a diferent location, etc.
What lenses are you using? did you fit colored c elements?

And how is it all working? Hows the PQ?

thanks for the pioneering work!

The tubes are the same - the overall length (with hardware) is fairly close.. No issues with fit.

The difference in top plates is shown in the one picture -

With the Barco LC top plate you used the provided holes - no drilling necessary. A shim may be required for the bottom - I did not use one - it was fairly sturdy.

This was just a fitup experiment - I have not experimented with it since gettin gthe 1208 and other retro setup and running - other hobbies.

My 1208 is so sharp and produces such a nice picture I am now just upgrading the source and not looking at the LC options.

The Barco Top plates are rare (very rare) I got this one from MadMrH (thanks once again). IMO it can be shimmed up and made to work with the OEM top plate but this was much easier (neater)

Pete

I have a couple of the Ampro retro c-elements you can have for the cost of shipping but I don't know if they are the same or not. You can probably tell if you still have one of your Ampro Retro P16s lying around.
