Your insurance is there EXACTLY for this kind of thing.

You do NOT want an assessment of "repairable", because your exact projector is still being manufactured by VDC.

If it is deemed NOT repairable, the insurance company cannot argue with an exact replacement; get ready to receive your brand new VDC 9500LC.

Methinks a lot of people are going to start dropping their 9500LC's with worn tubes very soon.... Smile

Could be that a refurbished Ultra 9500LC with brand new tubes and www.etechvideo.com reliability is in your future and all you have to do is pay $500 + 10% of your premiums for the next three years.

... and this thread may go from "That sucks!" to "YOU suck" quicker than I thought!

So do you guys think a drop froma stand is better than an "electrical problem"?

Oohh maybe a spill, juice down the back.....

hmmmm Confused

A couple of years ago my kid spilled a glass of orange juice down into the back of our Sony XBR tube TV. I let it dry out and it is still working fine to this day Smile

I dealt with a guy that had a Zenith PRO 851 (video only set) hit by a power surge and he had replacement insurance. THis was about 3 years ago. The insurance company told him that they'd give him a $5K digital, he said NO, I WANT A CRT! The closest thing was a Runco Cine 7 equivalent, at $17K plus the processor, putting the bill at over $20K.

The owner found me on eBay and we started chatting since he was in the market for a new CRT. I offered him a refurb 9500 LC with new tubes and Lumagen processor for I think $14K at the time, and since the insurance company was going to save $6K, they went for it. THey had no choice since the customer had the right to demand a CRT.

EXACTLY.

My insurance broker recommended the replacement value insurance even though it was more for JUST such an eventuality.

I have never minded paying a bit more for something a LOT better...

I have it too. Thumbs Up

Just in case.

Electronics depreciate to quickly NOT to have replacement insurance. Everything else in your house does not matter as much.

My problem is I'm too damn honest, even though we get ripped by insurance companies, but hey you never know could be in the future plans. And I've been with my insurance guy for about 25 years+ so he trusts me.

Chris, my sincerist condolences.
Tomorow I have to call my broker and see 'exactly' what coverage I have on my insurance. I never new about replacement cost insurance. I just figured they would give you depreciated cost.

It's a good thing to know. Thumbs Up hang in there. Don't fret too much while on vacation. It'll all work out.

I just found this topic.

Wow...that sucks!

I've lost a tube or two due to my own lack of knowledge or adequate precautions, but I've never dumped a projector!

I have learned, the hard way, but BEFORE it was the REALLY EXPENSIVE hard way, that Murphy's Law is the ultimate law of the universe.
If you do not anchor your PJ securely, something will happen. If you do anchor it, termites will eat the joists that it's anchored to. If
your termite problem disappears, you'll discover you have a beaver infestation in the attic, which is worse.

All installations should be planned out with the ultimate in pessimism and awareness of safety factors and the truth that if anything can
go wrong, it WILL.

As for your insurance possibilities, be sure to have VDC get in direct contact with your insurance company. I'd say that Scott (TSE)
would be your ideal VDC representative for this matter if he's willing to go for it.

If you have replacement insurance, and the same model is still available, (and it is), then that's that. If the insurance company doesn't
send a new 9500LC to your doorstep, you can win a suit against them.

That it's not a new PJ does not matter, most likely. Read your policy, especially the fine print.

At the very least you should be able to get insurance to cover full repair costs performed by a professional repair organization, like
Tim, or Curt Palme. Or VDC.

There is no reason why insurance shouldn't be able to take care of this to your complete satisfaction, meaning having a perfect 9500LC
running in your HT again soon.

Guys!

I acquired a 9500 Ultra about three years ago at a very good price. I put it on the bench and zippo, no lights or power anywhere. Gotta be the lvps, so I popped the front grill and found the lvps about half an inch out of the bulkhead connector, but the screws to secure it were in place! I straightened out the lvps sheet metal, and it fired up with a squealing noise and I smelled ozone big-time. The neck on the red tube was broken completely off. I unhooked the red anode and she fired right up. Upon further examination, two of the GT17s were smashed inward and the focus was frozen. I figure the machine was nose-dropped three or four feet up, but hand it to Ehome to build a robust machine.
