Stopped by on the way home to pick up a movie and there is an entire new section devoted to BluRay movies. Gonna have to break down and buy a player.

The PS3 just dropped by $100 this week. Down to $500 USD now. 5 free movies too through bluraysavings.com

FYI,

Circuit City includes a free spare controller ($50 MSRP)
Amazon has free shipping, no tax for most states in US, free Momento Blu Ray, and free PS3 Remote ($24 MSRP).

Both deals are valid for the 5 free movies too.

EDIT - The Amazon deal looks hard to find on the site but this is a working link...

Can you turn the PS3 ON or OFF via IR remote or RS-232 yet? If no, how are you automating this device?

Axatax,

No RS-232 port on Ps3... Can't turn on/off with Ir either.

I usually turn mine on by putting in the BluRay, DVD, CD or SACD in the slot up front.

After I take the disc out.. I use the power button that's right there too.

I also turn on and off my AVR by hand.. My Harmony IR remote does great but some things (power up and power down) I just like to do manually.

-Brian

p.s. One thing I've read about the PS3 BlueTooth remote is any button powers the PS3 on and several users found the PS3 on when they thought it would be off... Just add that info as it's the one problem with the PS3 remote apart from the fact it can't be programmed as a universal and can't control other gear.

I would have the PS3 as a BR player in a heartbeat if these issues could be overcome without a network of black boxes.

I suspect this is intentional, for the same reason Sony didn't put a video output on the PSP, even though this would have been _logical_ as the PSP can play UMD video - the game division and the electronics division don't want to compete with each other.

It's rather frustrating, as the PS3 is faster and more versatible than the S1 in nearly every regard. But the S1 has IR capability (with external IR) jack, which is worth two in the bush in an HT setting.

*turn system off* reach it by pressing and holding the PS logo button.

Smile

Yes, but unless something has changed recently, these will not power off the unit AFAIK.

Is this different from the old half an isle for BD and half for HD DVD? Sony has been bribing BB with A LOT of money. It would be odd if they are now giving them even more more money since the previous amount already secured pretty favorable treatment.

Correct.

But you have to get up to put a movie in and take it out, so I don't see a big issue (at least for me).

The remote does have the eject button - and kids are great for manual labor (as long as the unit is peanut butter resistant)

Interesting. I'll have to see if my local BB is doing that now when I'm in the area.

Hey, weren't you supposed to be having a meet about now? Smile

Mine must be broken because she never hears me ask her to do these things and actually walks in the opposite direction. Smile

lol

Sounds like you forgot to read the fine print in the OPS. For any action an equal and tasty treat must first be given.

I think it is the 2nd law of daughters.

I was by my local BB and CC today. BB had 1/2 aisle of Blu and 1/2 aisle of HD DVD. They were back to back and not side by side. Wish felt strange. Like BB thought there would be fights. CC had 1/4 aisle of Blue and 1/8 aisle of HD DVD. They were side by side.

I quickly perused the titles. At BB there were more HD DVD titles I'd want. More action stuff. At CC it was closer. Probably because there was more Blu.

Though at $25 - $35 a disc, there's not many that spring for.
