That's exactly what I'm talking about, couldn't you bother to read the link I posted? Here are only some of the accounts from the first 20 reviews on the site:

“mine melted this waxy stuff all over the inside of the power supply,”
“it wasnt until recently i read about microsoft advising against this product because of the strain on the power supply.”
“This item melted the power supply and sparked after haveing to use tools to remove it because of the melting it was black from sparking, my xbox dosen't work anymore so now im going to have to buy another one”

Ben, when you post a link to CIRCUIT SHITY I give no credibility to the link and whatever is contained within it. Sorry.
That being said, I would imagine that if this were the case then most retailers would already be pulling the product as unsafe, and to circumvent any potential mass liability. But this is something I'd presume if mass failures werer at hand, and not just something CS had to say.

Sorry, when that many people are receiving the same failure, I find it hard to believe that they're all setting it up wrong.
But if you want to stick your nose up in the air, how about:
IGN, and Nyko publicly admits fault:

Just google "Nyko Intercooler failure" and you'll find that, and much more...

Well, since the company admitted fault, they've redesigned the problem area and released the Intercooler EX:

Hey man, I call it that too. I was just objecting to WanMan's offhand dismissal of everyone who has ever used the CC review site.

Well I got an email from M$ repair....my 360 is on it's way back. Funny thing is when I called UPS with the tracking number based on some weird reschedule message at UPS.com, I was told delivery was delayed and rescheduled because M$ had reached and exceeded their UPS account limit.
I found it hilarious that a company that posted a $3.1B profit for Q2 (despite the 360 repair debacle) ran out of credit.
Anyway...looks like it'll be here in time for the HD-DVD releases of Fuzz and 300.
Side Note: Has anybody noticed how hot n heavy TNT has been advertising HD-DVD content and players? Last night there must have been 8 or 9 commercials in an hour and a half period relating to HDDVD.
Man I want to open that thing up when it gets here to see if I got the updated cooling system.....damn warranty seals! I THOUGHT I had a source for some original seals on a roll but the dude wanted $1500.00 for 150 of them.
Looks like I'm back in the game! Now all I need is the release of H3 and Army of Two and I'm fat (literally) and happy.
Greg

If you hold a bright flashlight to the Back USB opening and peer into the side of the unit you can see the space where the NEW Updated heat sink should be.
No need to open it.
I'd be interested in seeing if you got one too.
I got 4 machines back and none of them were the newer rev.

Welp....the replacement came last week....and died last night. SUPPOSEDLY it was a new console, not a repair. As soon as I read the insert in the box with the replacement unit I groaned because I just KNEW that I'd end up with a first run POS.
It locked up in a game last night.....I threw the controller at the f*cking console, turned the PJ off, hit the lights on the way out...and tried to call 8004mybox...they were closed for the night. (11pm).
THIS time I'm telling them I want my f*cking money back and they can buy back the damn HDDVD add-on too....and then I'm going to buy a PS3. (Sorry Dave...but I really enjoy gaming now the kids are grown and/or gone from the house). The last thing I wanted to do was support Sony but at least their sh*t (in this case) works consistently.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

I saw my first PS3 yesterday, and I have to say, from the outside at least, the PS3 looks a lot more solid than the X360. Not that that's saying much.
I did note that there's a LOT of HOT air coming out of the PS3 as well, so let's revisit in a year from now...

The amount of heat was a concern for me too, but you know what? I did a LOT of research into it and it seems that those Sony engineers really pulled out all stops when designing the cooling of the PS3 and everyone seems to all agree that it really does an excellent job at cooling the innards. See this post for pics.
Better to have the heat come out than for it to feel cool on the outside I say!
Kal

Yes I agree with Kal. I've designed this sort of stuff myself. The PS3 is a much better design. It has heat pipes and lots of heat sinking and most importantly a path to carry the heat away. The 360 has a poor heat sink and a bad path for the GPU.
another thing to note:
Japanese design is such that they make a central frame and bolt bits onto it until its a finished product. Frame, board, heat sinks, chassis parts, casings. The 360 is old school, a box, with bits shoved into it. the final case is a clamshell wrapped around that central box.
interesting eh? The last generation was the same way.

I think the PS3 and 360 probably generate an approximate amount of heat it's just the 360 wasn't engineered or manufactured to deal with the heat it generates and that includes at the board level not just heatsinking and airflow/CFM's.
That 1.5-ish Billion $$ M$ is throwing at this is like trying to push a rope IMO. They'll be lucky to even have an Entertainment Division left when this all plays out. 3 year warranty extension for a product that fails after "repair"? They are performing NO mods...they're just reflowing the solder on the mobo amd shipping them back. I don't get it. It's like having a shorted outlet and running up and down stairs forever resetting the circuit breaker unless you fix the problem...there'd be no end to it.
All that aside...I'm one PO'd consumer. I couldn't even bring myself to call them when I got home from work. It would have just been a string of hangups because I'd be swearing up a storm. I'll talk to Auto Max and Hajji tomorrow. And these f*ck*** are the ONLY company allowed to produce a product that it's against the LAW for the receipt holding consumer to open and modify.
<mumbling> MAN! Every time I run a line through something on the To-Do list.........

Well I thought maybe I would be oneof the lucky ones since my 360 doesn't get a whole lot of use and I didnt get it until about 6 months after they came out. I reconfigured my setup a couple weekends ago and moved things around. Went to go turn it on the other night and.....
Red Ring of Darth!
I am not even gone mess with those joeish bastards at MS. Curt is going to fix it.
(No offense to any Joe's out there.)

DOH!
Say hi to Max the automated moron for me.
I was just reading the other day repair is backed up 6-8 weeks.
As a parting gift tho MS is including a free game with the repair. Probably some cutout bin POS software tho.
Hey...tell Hajji (when you get to him after Automated Max) that you want a copy of BioShock!!! That game is simply frigging amazing. For you guys with moome gamma and MP's mods it would cause instant orgasm.
I have to replace one of our dying cars so there goes my MP fund...for now, so I have to crank up the brightness to compensate for poor black levels in that game but it's by far the most immersive and visually appealing I've played in a very long time.
Anywho...let us know how long it takes to get it back.
Greg
