It's time to get a better camera, because I'm not capturing what I see on the screen.
There's a scene (I didn't try to get it in these shots) where the lady follows a guy with a coat on to a restaurant. The guy has black on his collar. First the first time a few minutes ago, I got to see that black was a velvet material.

This evening or tonight, we are going to post some shots from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part2
Go get your pop corn and prepared yourself for something you would not think is possible, and that is to see a low end so well put on the screen, I'm confident my camera will capture it.
Stay tuned for the premier of: Much Better and Deeper than CRT Blacks. Starring the same cast, but also featuring Rapper DC Restore, Mr. Balanced Offset, ms Precious Pedestal and others...
Stay tuned..

You'll never capture what you can see on the screen, Mike. They eye has far, far more dynamic range capability than our projectors will produce... More than 20 f-stops, or millions to one. A CRT at a few hundred thousand to one is no match for the eye, but even a really good digital camera is 10 to 12 stops (or single-digit thousands to one), and that's if you're shooting RAW and post-processing to capture all you can. Cameras lack of dynamic range is exactly why people pursue HDR (high-dynamic range) imaging.
So, no matter what camera you have, you'll have to pick between faithfully reproducing highlights, or shadows, but not both. Since capturing shadows and blowing out highlights is ugly (humans are used to not seeing the dark when there's a bright object in view), cameras usually expose to capture highlights. That's why everybody's screen shots always have great blacks—camera meters typically expose for proper highlight capture and let shadows fill in.
An exception is in_peace's G70 scope shot above from Mad max... Because the bright screen was relatively small in the overall scene (and the rest dark), his camera prioritized shadow detail, which captured the darkened room well, but made the screen go overexposed.
I'll try to post some shots later with max dynamic range.

When you make the screenshot of the SMPTE pattern, maybe you can shoot some of some movie material to.. We are exited to see.
Do you have a link to screenshots you posted in the past, i seen you writing about you will post some for years, just never found any of your screenshots.

I'll shoot some of both when I do.
There's one or two shots in my album from the G70, and I took these back in the 1271 days:

My God, that was almost six years ago. I haven't really taken much for screen shots since the G70 setup shots. Never really saw much point. When I do have a little free time, I'd rather be watching a movie than taking screen shots and processing and uploading images.

Ill be waiting the pattern in the other thread, so we can see how your JVC performs, and wich one of my shot it will be closest to in holding level.
Do you think you can take one tonight.?

Yeah, I know.. And I should know that well, for as many screenshots I've done both here and over on AVS over the years. But when I say that, it's not that I'm coming from a place of not knowing, because I know all too well what the limits are. However, there are a lot of things that I do know, so its usually from that perspective that I speak.
The camera I have does need to be replaced, but why bother when most of my screenshots are taking from a projector that's not calibrated. And the purpose of my shots are not the compete, because that wouldn't make much sense either. So I take them for several reasons, with one being I actually can see some things in the shot a little different from how it is on the screen.
