It would be interesting to compare using an OPPO darbee player. I think this would sharpen the background on the stack.

I don't use any players Greg, HTPC, MPCHC + Madvr, works a treat Thumbs Up

Dave

Dave I been down that path with Madvr for years and it is low rez compared to the oppo 103D all processing
bypassed with file or bluray playback. I agree it does work but it is no Oppo Smile

103D plays MKV and true audio and dtshd. I run my Htpc thru it
and a 4tb external hard drive and an off air tuner. When I switch
back to the pc it is not good at all in comparison. The word I would
Use is low Rez. You won't be disappointed and your stack will thank
you😀 There is no going back for me.

Concerning any debate on the LCP in comparison to the LUG tubes and would there be a real difference on the screen.

The following four screenshots are from my Marquee, that has an LCP for the GREEN, RED and BLUE are LUG's.

The gain (contrast) is quite high on the Marquee, meaning the images are BRIGHT on the screen. The shots are clearly showing RED maintaining resolution while anything green is blooming. This is also the case when the gain is lowered, but it's worse the more you increase contrast.

The LUG's are true to being higher resolution, but a clean video chain is very important to keeping them from also blooming. I like them better when not driven too high. They just reveal so much more at a more at a moderate drive level.

I also use 1080p48.

Everyone says that is not any good.

I have grown up wathcing PAL SD at 50hz, so for me 48hz is no problem. Yes it flickers when you start watching if you havent seen't before. You have to watch if for awhile to get used to it, many wont do that. I think it has some benefits when you are driving at crt at 1080p. But it is for sure not for everyone.

I had a visit from a ht enthusiast from the digital camp(he has a JVC RS600) last night, and showed him the Sony G90. I used 1080p48hz he did not notice it at all.

BTW, he was really impressed with low level black level and depth. He also commented that he thought it was sufficent sharp in his eyes.

It is really cool that a nearly 17 year old projector can be compared to a top of the line 2016 JVC RS600. (Just remember that I say compared, I do not say better or worse).

You can tone down the sharpness all the way down on the rs600 and it will look smooth sharp like a crt. It will be much brighter as well and colours will match a crt when calibrated. Shadow detail will be more pronounced on the rs600 as well. Now low level black, depth, and fade to black is still where crts shine, personally I find it addictive as much as brightness is addictive. Our 9 inch projectors are sharp enough, if brightness was on par with the RS600 Id take my stack with me to my new house Mr. Green
