A few more screenshots (because I was looking for an excuse to start up the 909 for a few minutes, and also to test a new $30 lens on my Pentax K10D dSLR (the pictures are only cropped and resized, no other postprocessing had been done):

Funny how the standard "The Patriot" DVD is about the worst PQ I have seen recently. Nice to see that they got it right on the Blu-Ray.

Wow. *VERY* nice! This is what I'd expect to see out of a 909. Glad to see it's not going to waste! Smile

Hey Spot,

your shots are just incredible !!!!

Just wanna ask you how long your cable is you're running from the PS3 to the Fury and then to the 909 ?

I got probs with mine maybe because my cable is longer and outside the specs.

thank you
ElTopo

Did you use a powersupply? Spot's room isn't that big so I guess it's 5 meter max.

Guys,

I've been away from this forum for a long time. After my son was born in September of last year, I quickly was buried under a big pile of diapers Wink and had no chance to look at/post on this forum. And I also lost interest a little, because you can only have so much time to spend on hobbies. But I'm glad I'm finally back Very Happy

The good news is that my P19LUG's are still pristine, even though the 909 has seen enough use through the PS3 and even the Xbox 360. Usually, we watch a lot of TV series in HD (such as Lost, Heroes).

The bad news is that I still have to finish the HT room. The chairs are not even fixed to the floor... Surprised Also, the 909 is not without its problems. It sometimes refuses to start up, but this is a known problem with this machine and due to a faulty part in the power supply (which is cheap and easy to replace).

No problem - things will get better soon now that I got the itch back Very Happy

First, I wanted to find out more about how digital projectors are doing at the moment as I had never seen a 1080p digital projector before. So I visited a well-known dealer in the Netherlands with a JVC HD100 in his own living room. My first reaction: that little projector is sharp! But soon after the first minutes in the movie, I began to see the flaws in the picture. The sharpness is great from corner to corner, but personally I found it too sharp. No wonder because I was looking at a digital picture where 1 pixel in the movie is 1 sharply defined pixel on the screen. Due to this, the picture had a definite digital look - I found the sharpness too harsh overall as if I was looking at a oversharpened picture in Photoshop (but that's a little exaggerated). It just was not that pleasing to the eye (at least to me).
Another flaw I quickly noticed was the convergence error on the red panel that could not be corrected. I was told that the picture was optically maximally shifted and because of this, the red convergence was OK on the bottom of the picture but not on the top where it was off by 1-2 pixels in the vertical direction. Since the convergence on the JVC can only be corrected across the whole picture (like the raster shift in a Barco) this problem could not be corrected at all unless the projector was repositioned a lot lower.
Unfortunately, I could not check the blacklevel of the JVC because of the fact that the room could not be darkened enough (sun-facing windows). I guess that the blacklevel still is one of the best of the digital projectors.
As for lightoutput: I was told by a former Barco Cinemax (Cine 9) owner (and well-known calibrator), who replaced it with a HD100, that the HD100 actually was outputting LESS light than the Barco (originally bought new by him) so he quickly sold off the JVC!

All in all, I was not overly impressed with the HD100. Sure, it's a safe and easy buy for the normal consumer (there are a lot of them out there), but it absolutely will not beat my 909 unless in one category: the size. The picture of my 909 is in many aspects better. Dynamics, color accuracy, sequential contrast... I'm not alone in this: another fellow forum member (Robbo, the one who cut his 1209s in half) also has seen a lot of digital projectors lately, and he was not overwhelmed by the digitals either. Simply put: a top of the line 9" CRT still has to be beat by digital projectors (in the same price range). Still, digital has made huge leaps and I'm sure that I'll end with one someday. But not in the next 3-5 years... Very Happy

Hi,

This is very likely his problem, see attachment.
Just replace the two capacitors, use the same value and voltage, but at least 105 degrees and preferably low ESR. This is a two euro fix.

After this mod make a habit to use the power switch to completely power off your projector in stead of standby. This is better for all Barco projectors as some parts of the power supply do run hot while in standby.

There is a dipswitch that determines power-up behavior when power is applied to the projector, it is either stand-by or full power-up. I believe in the 909/Cine9 series it is a menu item.

Does this answer your question?

Today is a sad day Sad I've decided to sell my 909 because since the birth of my son we are experiencing that we don't have enough room in our house (which is already small). So, the HT will be used for other purposes and maybe we'll even move to another house. And for that, we can use every single cent Smile

However, it's good to know that I've experienced one of the best possible pictures on the screen, even better than the JVC HD100 (more filmlike, 3D and even more light output).
