Mark had connected his Fury to a Radiance processor. Before the Radiance it worked fine directly from the Pioneer Blu-Ray player at 1080P.
With the Radiance connected, it only worked at 720P. Once he switched to the Fury with the power supply, all was well with 1080P and the Radiance.
Plus the image appears punchier with the power supply.

Well, I was planning to buy the power supply from HKmod indeed, including a port 3 cable (always handy for the sources that are not that essential

I'm not sure if the Lumagen HDP/HDQ accept 1080p24 input, but I think it does.
It will allow output to multiples of 23.976 Hz and tweaking of porches.
Keep in mind though that the 165 MHz limit also applies to digital outputs of scalers.
Maybe you could use the following route:
PS3 (HDMI) -> HDFury -> analog-in Scaler -> analog out 1080p72 -> Re909
Alternatively you could use an HDCP stripper (e.g. moome's upcoming external box iirc) and do this:
PS3 (HDMI) -> HDCP stripper -> digital-in Scaler -> analog out 1080p72 -> Re909

Finally, we got time to fit the carpet in our small but damn fine BarcoReality 909 Home Theater! What a difference a simple carpet makes!
There's still a lot of work to do, such as covering the white door with a black self-adhesive velvet sheet, making a rack for the equipment, placing the chairs on a platform etc. But damn, I now have the feeling I have a real HT for the first time

Now all you have to do is get rid of that white radiator

Thanks! The radiator is going to be encased. I already have the pre-made materials, but still need to put it together and then paint it black.
The screen is just 80". So, lotsa punch with a 909!
Screenshots will come later, I'm still waiting for the HDfury power supply to arrive (1080p from the PS3 does not work without the external power supply, at least not with my cables).

Well, that and add some speakers.
Looks awesome... I'm definitely jealous. Congrats.

How long is the HDMI->DVI cable you're using? Just curious.
|
I don't even have a HDMI->DVI cable, but am using a HDMI-HDMI cable with a cheap adapter at the moment. I'm going to get a proper HDMI->DVI cable when I have a better idea of the length of the cable to get. But the fact I'm using an adapter is part of the problem: the signal level gets worse... Usually, I get a 1080p screen from the PS3 but only for 30 seconds at the max. After that, the picture gets unstable and finally disappears.
I was even having problems getting 1080p from my HTPC using a 5m Blue Jeans DVI-DVI cable (stars/snow on the blue tube), so I guess a CRT owner simply cannot use the HDfury without a power supply! It might work, but it is certainly not optimal.

The fact that Mike mentioned that the picture seemed 'punchier' with the power supply makes me think that EVERY HDfury user (especially HT owners) should be using a power supply.

Absolutely!

I'll have to get one for myself!

What, with all that work you've done in the past for HKmod, they should at least send you a completete HDfury package for free

Adapters are definitely not recommended.
Again, what's the length of the HDMI-HDMI cable? Remember that anything over 5m'16' without a power supply is a definite no-no, but it sounds like you're using a power supply.

I agree! (Actually, they have... Franck's been very good to me... and vice versa!)

The HDMI-HDMI cable is only 2m long.

I've got quite a few good regulated 5V power supplies (or I'll build one off a 7805) and testing this 'image punchiness' thing myself. I've only got a 6' cable from my PS3 to the HDfury so if it looks *any* better I'm going to be recommending that *everyone* use a power supply if image quality is important (ie: all of us!).

my 909 is fitted with a set of HD10F lenses (from the Sony G90 or some types of 1292). Although they seemed sharp, I decided to swap them with HD10L's today (these came from the 9500LC I bought earlier). Remember, my screen is only 79" wide (16:9).
I did not expect much of the HD10L's, as these are the cheapest lenses for 9"-ers (together with the plain HD10's).
Imagine my disbelief when I saw the increase in sharpness with the HD10L's. I won't call it dramatic, but sharpness in the center was visibly better than with the HD10F's. Corner focus is not superb, but I'm a movie watcher so the corner focus is not at all that important. The sharpness of the Windows desktop in the corners is not important to me. In fact, I watched a Blu-Ray movie and it was indeed sharper than before... And the scanlines on 1080p are there.
So for now, I'll stick with the HD10L's. The HD10F's will go into storage

All lenses are not created equal so use the lens designed for your screen size

There is nothing wrong with 10L's as long as you use them correctly. Straight 10's are supposed to be the general universal lens, but in my experiance, they suck at anything under 100 inches.

Last thursday, at 4.42am, we received a new addition to our HT:
It's a boy, his name is Evan and all is well with both him and his mother. The father, well... I need a little more sleep at the moment
No doubt this is the most expensive addition to the HT!
