no question about it this is pure bragging.

i needed a CD player at the office. cheezy headphones on the laptop wouldn't cut it, so i trickled down a meitner setup from home.

CD-3 player
PA6 pre
str55 amp
Stax electrostat earspeakers

Dave Brubeck sounds very very nice. Work productivity is way way down Wink

some stax cost 3800. the SR-40 retailed for a lot less, and i got this pair locally for about 150.

the rest of the gear is about 2000 used. much more in 1988 when i bought it originally Sad

Do you lock this stuff up at night?

No way in hell I'd want to leave equipment like that in my cubicle at work! Smile

yeah, i understand .... but we have very little theft around here. probably because i'm in a remote little corner of a remote building on our campus and because we have security wandering around on patrol.

i've always had gear in the office. a reel2reel or two. a tuner here and there. speakers occasionally, but they tend to "share the love" too much. once had the neighbours (a meeting room) come over and ask me to turn down the Dire Straits album i was playing at very loud volumes.

pagans.

that reminds me of one of the best movie dialogues i've heard. it's from "The Shadow" (1994)

Quote:
Margo Lane: Oh, God I dreamed.
Lamont Cranston: So did I. What did you dream?
Margo Lane: I was lying naked on a beach in the South Seas. The tide was coming up to my toes. The sun was beating down. My skin hot and cool at the same time. It was wonderful. What was yours?
Lamont Cranston: I dreamed I tore all the skin off my face and was somebody else underneath.
Margo Lane: You have problems.
Lamont Cranston: I'm aware of that.

priceless.
