Seriously, the app needs to be supported under x86 Vista and or XP. Ripping only bought CDs [as I wouldn't need to rip d/l music].

If you want something easy to use, try iTunes. It's configurable, has nice library and searching, Cover Flow (fun way to browse your music). It will rip to MP3, AAC, or even Apple Lossless codec if you want something like FLAC... It's a nice piece of software and part of what makes the iPod a great experience... and you can get it for free!

Far and away the best tool I've found is Exact Audio Copy. If you want MP3s you will just need to download the LAME (or similar) encoder.

I'll second this one. EAC rips CDs that no other ripper I've had could.

Nero and winamp are usually pretty easy...I guess I need to try EAC.

Another vote for EAC, I use it and have always been happy with the speed and output.

Hi There,
I use EAC with a FLAC plugin....However it depends on what you are using the rips for. If its an Ipod then maybe itunes would be better or EAC with the Lame mp3 plugin.
I chose FLAC as its free and lossless, its also supported by the Slimserver and Squeezebox system that i use for audio arround the house and i can also use it with winamp on my HTPC for excelent audiophile stereo playback (with an asio rme plugin).
However for car useage i'm having to get hold of a phatbox/kenwood audio keg as flac is less well supported, also for my Ipod i had to transcode down to mp3 which is slow and painful, but atleast with Flac you can do that....with MP3 you sure as hell can't get back to the source unless you re-rip.
So you'd be wise to choose what you want to do with your files first and how much the codec will impact your choice etc !
