Hate the game don't hate the player.
I have a whole bunch. They hit storage 2 years ago and haven't been heard from since. The picture was beautiful on my 27" CRT with built in line doubler. We even ran the origional Star Wards laser disk on a Runco 930. Back in 2000 or so. It was either scalled or doubled and looked realy nice coming off the Pioneer Elite player that was brand new back then. DV-09?? Maybe.
There's nothing wrong with laser disk. I started collecting in 1997 heavily as people bought DVD"s and dumped their laser disk collections. At one point I was paying 50 cents a disk.
What model are you picking up?

I have a Laserdisk Recorder at work they are using as a doorstop.
Is it worth anything?

Yes pic it up. You can author your own disk. You could be a laser disk pirate. You're only about 15 years too late. Then again where would you get the blanks?
lol
You know that might make an excellent playback machine, that is if it can play back a disk.
What did they use it for?

One of my DVD players is a Pioneer Elite DVL-90 LD/DVD combo player.
LD's have great sound. I have a respectable collection of LDs including some titles
that have, so far as I know, never been released on DVD. But it's been a long time
since I even plugged in the DVL-90. I wonder what it would bring on ebay? It's in PERFECT condition.

no idea what they used it for. It was in the room when my dept took it over to use as an action center for support.
the thing is HUGE. its at least 10 inches thick.
i have no need for it. i've only ever seen a few laserdisks back in the 80s when they first came out and I rented Star Wars for the first time. I think i still have the VHS copy i made of it. i'll Always remember the scene when the Xwing first dives into the trench 16 times as the disk skipped.

I remember first time I saw a Laser disk, my dad bought it for my uncle with a disk and we demoed it before delivery. I think it was back in 85'. The disk "The Jerk". It looked fantastic on the 25" console .

I've got some crazy LDs still in my collection, along with the requisite titles like the Star Wars boxset. The one thing I'm missing is the unedited Song of the South...

It's a Sony MDP-200. No idea if it's even worth $20 but it works. No remote but I can use a old programmable or something.
If you ever dream of selling some discs Analog, I'd buy. Ebay seems to have a good number of decent discs right now.

I love LD...the sound is still unparalleled on many of the discs. Even a dolby surround version of a disc is quite often miles ahead of the DD dvd. For that reason alone you may find yourself loving LD!
Take the opening music in Mission Impossible...the LD is just remarkable...the dvd is..well, not that great.
The movie Heat is like a different movie with the LD soundtrack...this is just the tip of the iceberg. Now...if only it wasn't such an average picture.
I'm still hoping that uncompressed HD-DVD or Blu-Ray will get us back to the level of LD audio quality!

Yep that's the one we were using. I went to buy mine and they were discontinued. Don't know what they go for on ebay but I missed a trade in at the local A/V store for $400 about 5 years ago.

See if the pretty lights come on. Yeah the disks didn't like radial scratches, excess glue or laser rot for sure.

I believe Song of the South copied from a Japanese LD onto dvd is going up right now on Alt.bin.dvdr .
Don't quote me that it is from the Jap LD but the copy that I got last year on dvd was from a Jap LD.Japanese audio was on the left track & english was on the right.

Yep.. Pioneer Elite DVL-919. It WAS the way to go before anamorphic DVD. I even have a Japan release only of Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace. Really funny has original english soundtrack with Japanese Subtitles at the bottom. This came out LONG before it was released on anything in USA. Also the "gotta have" Star Wars Special Edition Box Set. Plus quite a few other titles I paid too much for! Such is life 8)

I'm nearly ready to retire my Ld player.
I bought it for "Home of the Brave" (A concert film not the drama film.) And that's coming to DVD soon.
I keep it for "Delicate Sound of Thunder" as I'm a bit of a Pink Floyd completist but actually DSoT is fairly poor particularly compared to the "Pulse" DVD. I guess I'll take another shot at trying to put DSoT on DVD then I can take the Ld player to the Goodwill if they will even accept it.
I actually put the LD player on Videogon for $20 for a while and no - one at all was interested which I guess is no surprize. Doesn't seem worth it to Ebay it.

I have several LD players. 2 Sony's and a philips with digital frame store.
The oddest LD in my collection is Frankie goes to Holliwood, Welcome to the Pleasure Dome. Got it from a friend of mine when we liked the music. An... umm... explicid disc, for sure. And it seems it does not exist as it was banned. Needless to say, that's when I found out about alternative lifestyles.... Oh well, I still liked the music.
Haven't played a LD in years. It was a great format at the time.
