Well the reason I do the flapping last on the 1292 is that lens flapping is very hard to get right with the 1292 system.

IF you try to do it earlier on in the setup you can and probably will be totally confused with what constitutes Astig issues and what is flapping problems.

This is why I use the main lens focus adjustment to focus up on each area as you tweak the Astig. What this does is isolate lens flapping errors from tube errors. Its much easier to set the flapping on an errorless tube face than to try and focus the edges when you still dont know if the edge focus errors are Astig or lens related.

The proviso here is that the flapping is fairly reasonable already. You may need to rough it in, if its way out first off.

I have tried it both ways and IMO, providing the flapping is vaguely correct, this sequence works better.

Hi Graham,

I got my DVD this week. WOW!!! Great stuff. I never really understood Astig until I watched this.

A picture is definitely worth a thousand words (or 100 thousand articles).

A MUST for any novice CRTer.

Thanks,
Dwight

After reading all the positive feedback on this DVD I'll order one also. Wish I had a DVD like that seven years ago when I got my CRT pj....Even if I have a 6PG extra and not a Sony 1292, the concepts should be the same.

Hi I ordered a copy of Graham's DVD on Feb 10th and have not received it yet. I was just wondering about how long it has taken for your DVD's to arrive. Should I be worried yet?

Thanks,

Don Berry

The postage is normally about 2-3 weeks. But in this case I havent sent the last batch yet.

I only just received the duplicates back from the copying service yesterday.

They should post out by Monday.

Graham perhaps you missed my post above,

I bought your dvd for a few reasons but one of the big ones was cause it had a section on fan noise reduction, the main part of that section is reference to a thread on the site that shall not be named, but I am unable to find it now, no mater how hard I try, do you have a link to it ???? or does anybody else have it ????

Please all help appreciated

This has become very difficult since AVS archived all the threads.Luckily I found a few links which may help you.

The In line zener method is best. IMO the resistor in series option is NOT the way to go.

I suggest a 4.7V 2 watt zener diode would do the trick. A word of warning. Do NOT throttle down the neck board fans if you are running 1080p

Graham - I emailed you yesterday but haven't heard back. I tried the DVD in 3 different players and a very new Mac Book Pro and none of them can read it.

yes I did sorry it hasnt arrived yet. I had 5 faulty disks out of 30 in that last shipment. I tried the remained of the disks from the last duplication and they had a 30% failure rate.

I ordered some more, They will ship late this week. Sorry for the delay.

had an interesting email from a customer today. He had a supposed faulty disk wich wouldnt play. by some luck he removed the upper sticker (which is easy removed)and low and behold. It worked !!

I am not sure why but maybe you could try that. New disk has been sent, but maybe you could try this and see if it makes a difference.

I've had a few discs with labels that gave a little trouble in my slot-load notebook drive - the GetGray calibration disc is one I know that gave me trouble.

Graham, you should consider getting one of the cheap Epson inkjets that prints right on the DVD-R's. You could probably even buy one locally used - cheap. The blanks cost a little more, but then you don't have to fool around with printing labels and applying them - and there's nothing to fall off or cause problems.
