And then you need to hoist the beast up to the ceiling. This is (Clarence's animation of) my preferred method: hang chains from the strut, and attach hooks to the bottom of the projector. Raise it up one corner at a time. I used this on a Sony G-90 and an Electrohome 8500 (twice). Took it from floor to "attached to the strut" in less than 30 minutes, by myself.

Yep. Used that method myself. I like it because (if done correctly) it's perfectly safe, no chance of dropping it, and you can do it alone.

A much easier option is to rent a drywall lift as well. They were about $50 a day to rent at home depot last time I checked. You didn't say what projector. If it is a smaller one like a 7" CRT projector I would just have a friend help you.

If using a drywall lift be careful of the weight limit. Most lifts max out at 150 lbs which is close to or below the weight of most CRT projectors that people would want these days:

Barco BD/BG 808, Cine 8: 148 lbs
Barco BD/BG 1200-1209: 165 lbs
Barco Cine9: 187 lbs
Electrohome Marquee 8000 LC Series: 175 lbs
Electrohome Marquee 9000 LC Series: 186 lbs
Sony VPH-G70 Series: 182 lbs
Sony VPH-G90U: 242.5 lbs
