Hello, all - this is my first post on the forums here. Hopefully I can make it a good one!
I've recently acquired a used Sony VPH-1271Q projector. It's my very first CRT projector. It powers up fine, and everything seemed to work, so I went about following the user manual and getting it set up according to that. My plan was to follow the Sony manual for the first setup where it's just on a desk, and then follow the guide on CurtPalme.com for the proper setup once I confirm it works and get it ceiling-mounted.
I adjusted the green and red as best as I could, and then moved onto the blue. Unfortunately, it looks like absolutely none of the blue horizontal registration adjustments work at all. The ZONE adjustment for red, green, and blue works fine, both horizontally and vertically. The SIZE, LIN, SKEW, BOW, KEY, and PIN settings (referred to from here on as REGISTRATION CONTROLS) all work fine for red and green, both horizontal and vertical. The REGISTRATION CONTROLS work fine vertically for blue. However, the REGISTRATION CONTROLS do absolutely nothing horizontally for the blue tube. Both of the MIN and MAX extremes of every REGISTRATION CONTROL on the horizontal axis produce the exact same test pattern image on the screen. I even went with a ruler to measure the lines, to be sure I wasn't just seeing things. The REGISTRATION CONTROLS produce extremely different images on the vertical axis for blue, and for both axis on red and green.
Naturally, I was a little upset, and figured something had to be wrong with my projector. So I did a Web search, and found a thread on these very forums: http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=487348
It ended with the OP disappearing, after Curt said it must be user error. Naturally, I disagreed with this, since my projector was at the correct distance for the screen size I am using according to the manual. So, I emailed Curt, and got a quick response. It read: "[...] your problem is most likely bad solder joints on the convergence/vertical board, around the output transistors. THe board flexes, cracking the solder joints. I've seen that a lot on the 12XX series."
That sounds like a great place to start! I'm not coming here for a second opinion, necessarily, because I trust Curt... But, instead, I'm coming here for a much simpler reason: Which board is the "convergence/vertical" board? I'm familiar with electronics in general, and comfortable working inside regular color CRT direct-view sets, but... I just can't seem to identify which board in this thing I should be looking at! The service manual ( obtainable here: http://www.curtpalme.com/docs/Sony1271_Service.zip ) doesn't seem to be helpful either - it only identifies the boards by letters/numbers, without really detailing their function.
Can somebody please guide me in the right direction? Thank you!

Thank you, both for the welcome, and the help!
I've got a bit of a story to tell... I pulled the board, and reflowed just about all the big joints on it. Put the projector back together, and hit the power button, and it immediately shut off. From experience with other devices, it felt a lot like the power supply output was shorted.
So... I took the board back out, looked everywhere for a solder bridge, couldn't find one. Called my husband in, and his keener eyes on the board found where I'd splashed some stray solder between two pads that shouldn't have been connected. Cleaned that up, stuck the board back in, hit the power button - great, it turns on now! But still no blue horizontal adjustment... What the heck?!
I decided to pull the board out again to maybe give it another shot, and do the rest of the joints I didn't do the first time. As I was removing it, I just so happened to lift up the other board that sits above the blue tube, and... one of the horizontal deflection/convergence/whatever wires was straight up disconnected. I plugged it in, put the thing back together, and... now every adjustment works great!
I could have saved so much time and grief if I just spent a little bit longer looking over everything before jumping to one of the most time consuming things I could have done.
I'm just glad it works now!

Ha, I have done so many things like that so many times. If you ever watch Adrian's Digital Basement he does it all the time too.
I've watched him take apart a 1979 SONY CRT tv when all he needed to do was look a little closer.
Recently I changed my licensee plate bulb twice. Went to borrow one from another car when I came back to it the wire was just hanging there. If I had looked a little wider in the first place I would have saved my self an hour. Hyperfocus on the 'one' problem but need to see the bigger picture.
