I made a comparison of JVC N7 ( NX7) last May,
it wins in sharpness definitely,
the subtitles are very important.
I have enjoyed reading the subtitles, and went into zombie mode.
digital is the way to go if you love to get engrossed in the movie,
Korean language just seems so fluid.
Forgot about the good flesh tones of CRT,
or CRT's great Dark scenes with all the highlights and perfect shadows ?
Digtal has HDR10+ and Dolby Vision embeded already for free,
that a Lumagen/crt combo does with full control seperately but for around 3k to 9k , plus the all the hdmi conversion in between.
During the movie, while reading the texts intently.
Ever so suddenly a bright Bluish light comes on and it is like the sun is an oncoming Car,with HID headlight
is in front of you. It so real or surreal.

No, i don't hear the raster ringing,
It is the JVC's ringtone you are hearing.
probably only eitopo's splitter was in there.

take the hv leads of ie red and blue out of the splitter and run the pj with just the green red or blue tube.
also clean the hv leads with alcohol.

A white ceiling is contrast killer number one. CRT contrast cannot show its potential.
Any plans that you paint it black ?

HI Eits,
Any spliiters to spare?
I agree with you, but my wife hates an all black room.
it is not my Bat Cave, she is the one that uses the PJ 90% of the time .
And actually the first 60cm of the ceiling is all black( starting right above the screen),
it was just too dark on the Pics to show.

In theory, it would be possible to replace the Barco splitter with a splitter from a Marquee (which rarely fail). What would have to be compensated is the missing High Voltage feedback line. Inside the Barco splitter there is a resistor connected to the HV-Line which -together with the pot on the small PCB- works as a voltage divider (something like a 1000:1 ratio). If this resistor could be placed at the input of the Marquee splitter, it just would do the same as in the Barco.
Please refer to the pictures below. The required resistor would have to be a HV-type or a chain of smaller resistors. Its value would have to measured (difficult) or to be calculated from the pot value.
If we call the HV-Resistor R1 and the pot R2 then for a 1000:1 ratio (Vin = 1000 * Vout) the formula is as follows:
R1 = R2 * ((Vin-Vout)/Vout)
So for 35KV as Vin, 35V as Vout and a pot value of 100K ohms (=100000 ohms) we would get:
R1 = 100000 * ((35000-35)/35) = 99900000 ohms
So, this would be a 99,9 megaohms resistor

That looks like a high voltage problem and you'll probably do better using a high voltage probe to verify the 35K
The one in the image will be shipped to Tim Martin soon, check with him about either using it or if he'll want to sell it. It works with most Fluke digital meters. It's what I've used to work on the 909's back in the day.

Hi Mike,
I did opened up the splitter , and did found 4 100kohm resistors in series and another three on the output to RGB,
plus 4 caps of 6000pf at only 10kv rating.
The caps are definitely the ones failing.

If it's a high voltage problem the QUAD is most likely suspect, because its diode/capacitor network quadruples the voltage on its input. The problem you describe could most likely be a failure in the Quad, because weakness in high voltage can also cause focus problems.
If you're able to swap out the parts internally that would be a good thing.
Back some years ago I was sent to Barco Training in California, and while there I did bring up the problem of the failing Quads on the 909. I was told it was the diodes that was the problem, and if repair could be possible, to not only replace but to upgrade to the next value. That I think could have meant to go with a high ampere or voltage rated diode but of the same family or series.
There should be a thread somewhere on here about that time and subject. So, if the diodes test good and the caps are suspect, upgrade both, Because the engineers were clear that the failings were the diodes.

I did swap quads, but to no avail,
it was the splitters , that was causing it.
had this same issue two years back, it got me chasing after ehts and quads, only to find out it was a bad splitter.
I have opened up a lot of quads and plan to just replace all components,
i will check on the diodes later and report back.

mike, what are the originals rated for and what would you recommend?
isn`t that in a potted section just like the marquee hv supply?

I used to have the replacements for the Marquee, but never really finished one. I was only able to dig out one of the diodes and looked up the number. There were maybe six in that series. I was told to go with the next highest number.
I asked the engineer who worked at Electrohome about the parts, he told me they purchased parts based on the engineering requirement but at the same time had to be cost conscious. So going with better rated components was always a cost concern. Those high voltage diodes are usually sold in series, where you should always be able to pick a better or higher voltage/current device.
After being told at the Barco training about the diodes in their Quads being the failing components, is when I started tearing into the Marquee high voltage modules.
I'll see if I can find what those diodes were, but I also suggest that if you intend to replace them, the part number is marked on the diode. Just go with the part number next up in that series. The caps in the Marquee are large and already very high voltage, so they were not suspect.

HI Mike,
Hope you can help me on this, i have opened up two splitters and can not spare the wires, all the wirings are just messed up after carving out the epoxy.
Is it possible for you to explain how the wires to the RGB posts are connected ?

Check with barclay66 concerning what is in the insides of the splitter. as it seems he had already mentioned something on this previously in this thread.
With it having a very few components I'm thinking repair should be achievable once you can deal with removing the compound.
When you can present the parts that are in there, then I'll like to get involved in which components to use and even how to build back up to put it all back together.
Be mindful to use only potting material that's high voltage rated. That means it would have a zero water or moisture content during manufacture.

regarding the insides, i have determined the resistors are 6 10k ohms carbon type 3watt ratings and caps at 4 pcs. 6kpf 10kv rating and that is all.
i just don't know what those dotted lines in the diagram means, it shows parallel wiring, which i doubt very much.
