Well I may not be able to produce the ringing after all. The video board is being flaky and seems to lose sync even when there's no input. So I'm thinking that the board is toast or the cable going from neckboard to video board is bad. Moving the board helps to get the picture back. Oh well - probably not worth fixing at this point.
