TV/Projector: Vidikron Vision 1 - Ultra

Posted: Mon Dec 05, 2016 11:16 am    Post subject: VIM 2 Too Dim on all 3 tubes

Hi All,

I recently bought Mike Parker VIM 02 board about 2 months ago and the modification backdated to 2011. Initial impression is that the black level was fantastic and seem sharper than normal VIM that I have.

The only concern for this VIM is that I need to push drive & G2 setting very high and still not able to get the picture at the correct acceptable level for watching movies (quite dim). If I increase the contrast, the picture bloom quite badly because I'm using lug tube. I'm curious if anyone can help to pinpoint which component might impact all 3 tubes drive or G2 level.

By the way, this combination setup is also using MP modded neck board.

I can change and solder any component just to get this VIM board to work correctly. Any feedback will be appreciated.

Guys,

Yesterday I changed MP VNB with a different VNB (old type on blue & VDC VNB on green & red). Since the picture is still dim, I decided to adjust the contrast on Moore V3 HDMI card by turning counterclockwise.

By doing this, I'm able to get the brightness level and I'm quite glad now.

The only worry I have is that if I change back another VIM, the setting on Moome card is all wrong and I'm not sure how to adjust it back to the correct setting of 0.7v.

Hello

0.7 volts is not carved in stone. We were running HTPCs through an Extron interface and found that the Marquee looks good with one volt applied.

In fact the Marquees were designed to run from 1V...

That's a positive. I think Mike's VIM is excellent upgrade as now I can see that the color are better and more natural. The text does not bloom as it used to be before. It's really a great piece of work by Mike.

I wonder what the latest VIM picture quality as compared to this one (2011)

You may have an earlier version, but a customer that has a later version (less than two years) posted the following in a PM when I asked what he noticed with the latest video chain he got last last month, and he's using LUG tubes...

Quote:

and yes Mike, the picture IS S U P E R S H A R P!!!

even though my convergence is sh*t right now

He asked me would he see a difference between what he has and what the later version would do, and this was one of my my responses on that:

"This is the best thing out there for LUG tubes. The sharpness on my screen is amazing. Sharpness and detail is beyond expectations"

He also confirmed this but also noticed that the low end and colors are also on par to the sharpness improvement.

Look for shear BLACK and low level detail in the posted screenshots..Wink
