G2 wires partly melted to the metal. Jumper10 multiwire a bit flossy. Fuse f4 blown. When fuse replaced, it fires up, light the tubes, stays on with full tubelight for 2 sec, then shuts down. Heading to the dumpster?

Shouldn't be hard to fix. Your tubes are being driven too hard, then the HV shuts down to protect the tubes. I'm out of town for the weekend, but can check the service manual next week and see if I have boards in stock.

Do you know if there are any interchangeable parts between the 3600 & the 4200?

Find Tse on this forum (member search) and send him a PM. He probably knows as much as anybody alive
(or dead) about AmPros since he helped create them.

Tse helped me get my Ampro 4000 going when it looked like it wouldn't run again. He's super good with Ampros.

OK, I'll get to the service manual today. Strange that the G2 wire would crumble like that. I'd definitely replace it right from under the motherboard.

What I would do to start is measure the G2 voltage. It should be somewhere between 400-800 volts DC. Let me know where that's at.
ALso you can try to unplug two of the three CRT sockets, so that only one tube is connected. See if you can get one or two tubes to work. A shorted CRT socket/video amp can cause the problem you're seeing.

I'm not sure how to do that. G2 voltage measure by +probe on G2-wire and -probe on chassis? How do I unplug CRT sockets?

Correct on the G2 measurement. Disconnect the G2 lead, and there's two wiring harnesses on each CRT board that go to multipin connectors. Unplug those at the CRT socket to disconnect the tube from the circuit.

OK, there's your problem, that's way too high for the G2! I therefore suspect a problem in the HVPS. I need the X part number, and the 4 digits after that, could be X2102 or X3394, etc.
