I have both a Barco cinemax and jvc 4k. With a properly calibrated Barco Cinemax, the CRT is almost as resolving or shall i say as clear as JVC except for the corners which a CRT can't focus as well. Does that mean the JVC is not natural? Far far from it, a JVC with everything set to neutral (no enhancement whatsoever), it is just as pleasing to the eyes with a native film rate of 24hz (bluray) whereas my barco cannot do 24hz unless you use a scaler to play it at 72hz. For a more immersive experience, the JVC can do a big 2.35 screen which is very very addictive whereas the barco you really need to setup a blend to achieve that kind of size which to me is not practical as over the years, the CRT needs to change parts as it's coming to over 20yrs? or more? And I only have one cinemax!!!! If going for a small 16 by 9 screen, i would probably take the CRT, but if you got the space and going for a big 2.35 (more than 80% of movie are 2.35?), I would definitely go for the JVC. By the way, i setup my JVC for a big 2.35 and my cinemax for 16b9. I am enjoying both but my parts count for CRT is down to 1 controller board.

I will say only very few enthusiast will still say what some say here, and is completely ok Smile Its a CRT topic thread.

Remember 10%-max30% MTF against way over 95% at resolving 1080P is why. WELCOME TO HD Smile

A Barco cinemax is not comparable in picture quality with todays standards in any way perfect, I will say that the only thing the best CRT is better at something over a JVC RS 5xx-6xx is the complete "black" fade to black. A JVC in this range 98% of the CRT with auto iris then fade to black. Even shadow detail is better on digital. And black in movie.

And have to say I if a Cine 9 is better than a digital today???? World is twisted lol. This is so silly.
a digital "show it", "don't like it" keep CRT nothing wrong with that Smile

He'll be gone in 3,2....1.

I'll bet it's a secondary account set up by one of the previously banned forum members, the writing style is similar.

LOL LOL. Just repaired my cinemax and you know what? Of all issue, it turns out to be a chassis board problem. Took me total of 3 days and total of 12 hours troubleshooting and since it's ceiling mounted, got to get the chassis rgbhv tray out and put in a spare, its a bitch job to do but I did it. While these repair were going on, I was glad I got my JVC so that i could take in between breaks and sit down and enjoy a movie. 10 years ago, when i didnt have my JVC, i would be crying now if my cinemax broke down. Thank you JVC and yes CRT is like a sip of an old wine on a weekend.

People who confuse pixel artifacts with sharpness and resolution always amuse me.

Even the cheapest digital projector will focus to the point that you can count the pixels if you have that much spare time on your hands. But that's no guarantee of anything other than having enough optical sharpness to resolve the pixels in the panel.

Some people get so...focused....on things like pixel sharpness and on/off per-pixel contrast ratio and MTF that they forget that ultimately it's how you respond to the picture quality that is what's important.

There are many aspects needed to get a great cinematic experience. Crt is far from perfect, and also digital projectors are far from perfect.

Its only a few people today that will claim that a crt picture today is more natural. Who is right? It dosent matter. It is just great that there is many choices out here.

Currently running a jvc (older unit), I have tried newer units, but I suspect processing even if all is turned off.

I would gladly use a Barco 909, if it could run a 12 feet wide screen with 15 foot-lambert light-output.

I applaude everyone that still are evolving and using crt, it would be shame if all units ended up in the recycling.

Heck, I'm still willing to buy certain CRT units if the price is right. Any G90, 9500LC, or 909 even if they need tubes.

I have...plans. BIG ones. For a big project for my personal enjoyment. No idea if I can make it happen, but without enough
projectors, there's no point in even starting.
