Hi sdubreuil,
I diddn't read all of the posts here ( I'm Lazy ) But I agree that you could get a better machine for not to much. If you are to keep it... I have done all of the normal mods including the spring mod ( toe-in) and lens flapping. I would still suggest 1080i . It was the best picture I could get out of my 1252. This was on a 80" diag 1.78:1 Carada screen
Just my 2 cents,
John

Again Thanks a lot |
No problem! You can find docs on Curt's site about Scheimpflug correction... Basically, you'll know if you need if you can get one part of the screen in focus, but not another. If you can get the top focused, but not the bottom, or vice-versa, then you need Scheimpflug correction. It's also called "lens flapping" or "goggle flapping".
As for the 127x mods, there's two you can do for better perforamance. The first is easy and should be mandatory on every 12xx install.
1) Tube toe-in "spring" mod. This mod replaces the pot-metal "tube spacers" that adjusts toe-in angle on the CRT's to allow for perfectly centered rasters on the red and blue. It's an easy mod - probably only takes 20 minutes to install and only costs a few bucks in springs and rubber grommets from the hardware store
2) "Scheimpflug" or "flapping" mod. This mod is a little more difficult to install and makes focusing much more difficult. Mor importantly, it makes focus much better over the entire screen. It takes a little more time to install.
Both mods are in the "mooneyass" guide in the 12xx download section...read this thing a couple of times - it really helps you understand what we've been talking about...
The 'Mooneyass' Sony 1270Q Setup and Operation Manual 0.9mb
Also, you still haven't mentioned which lenses are on your projector. Depnding on which lenses you have, you might be better of spending less than half the price of upgrading the convergence boards to buy better lenses.

Oh, good - PT65's are great. You're all set, then. The PT-65's are the best you can do on a 12xx without spending a LOT more money and going to a lot more hassle.

I just read again all the info that you provide me. In particular thsi one:
"Also, to really maximize sharpness (especially with a screen that small), you'll eventually probably want to do the "mooneyass" mod to give you Scheimpflug correction.
"
Could you please tell me what you mean by ""mooneyass" mod to give you Scheimpflug correction. "
Again Thanks a lot |
If you simply Google "mooneyass" the very first hit will take you to his site.

You will see an improvement if your original set up was not quite perfect due to the 21 point convergence
However you have not increased your bandwidth
You would have to change the CA(B)and CA(RG) boards to achieve the extra bandwidth
The Y board has the same part number however I think the EEPROM
is programed for the extra frequency block

Thanks Halo & rwijnhov
Halo, are you sure about the CA (B) & CA(RG) cards?
How can we know if the EEPROM is programmed for the extra frequency block ?
Finally, I can't find any info about the CA(RG) but only for CA(G).
rwijnhov
A picture takes before and after the change will be the best but I do not believe that you will remove your 2 modules. Please show us how a 720p & 1080i look likes on your PJ.
Best Regards
Stephane

Yes I am sure about the CA boards
I have no idea on the EEPROM How ever as all the other boards are the same the Y board must have the block information as that is where it is stored
CA(RG) 1251 A-1335-032-A
CA(RG) 1271 A-1335-026-A
CA(B) 1251 A-1335-033-A
CA(B) 1271 A-1335-027-A

Humm
I have received my Moome HDMI card + Gamma Correction for my Sony VPH-1251Q.
I have run the Moome card with:
PJ Sony VPH-1251q
My DVD DENON 1910 (Faroudja chip upscaler).
Output DVI
Upscale at 720p and 1080I
This setup was compare to:
my old setup with the same Sony projector
Line Doubler Faroudja VP250 (480p)
Results
When I use the Denon internal upscaler with the moomes card, the artifact is present everywhere. The colors are not as good as the VP250. Even the details are not as good. Definitely, my old 480p VP250 Faroudja do a better job. I did even compare it with the 480p mode in the Denon DVD player and the difference is huge.
Before you asking me, I did already optimize my projector with the help of many of you (Thanks) J
The astigmatism correction is done.
The G2 (4V) correction is done.
The white Balance is done.
The PJ to screen distance is optimizing. 87" for a 67x50 screen.
My Lenses are clean.
New spacers for the CRT are on.
The lens angle correction (not done yet).
All the correction above did improve my image by a lot. The difference is amazing. I’m very impress with the result
My only dilemma is now to fix the artifact issue.
Question:
Is my problem is the Denon internal upscaler (which what I think)?
Or is it the Moome (I will be surprise).
Do I need a new processor for upscaling?
If yes, is it better to spend my money on HD-DVD instead?
I use my PJ for Movie only.
I will post a picture (result) as soon that I fix the Artifact issues.
Thanks everyone
Stephane
