I have a Sony 1272, a Sony 1271 switcher and a Denon X1200W HT receiver.
I'm trying to figure out if there's a way I can hook up my vcr?
The receiver doesn't have any rca jacks.
Would a composite to hdmi adapter work?

HI Larry, your receiver does indeed have a composite input. See page 52 of your owners manual:
"Connecting a set-top box (Satellite tuner/cable TV)" and the "HDMI incompatible device"

You will use the Composite video input over by the power input of the receiver labeled Cable/Sat and the RCA left and right audio on the other side of the receiver ( 2nd set of RCA jacks next to the antenna)

Thanks! I called them first, & they said that it couldn't be done. So much for factory support

Not quite sure about Sonys, but Marquees had the capacity to accept component and s-video inputs even if they only had the base RGBHV input card. It'd look for composite on the green input, and for s-video it looked for it on two inputs.

But I think this functionality was only supported for a limited time.

I must presume that it is possible for the Sony machine to do something similar. You may want to check into it.

I've never heard of anyone using this feature, actually, but I know it exists on some projectors.

Oh yeah the 1272 does indeed have composite and S-video inputs on it. I use them all the time on mine. However since the VCR is by the receiver I'd try plugging it in there and see how the receiver handles the upscaling.
