So like many people, I found a CRT projector for really cheap and thought what the hell? For the most part it works fine so far, except for its start up process. When starting up, it'll flash on shake like crazy and then it will dim down to the point of not projecting at all. Turn it on and off a bunch of times and eventually it will catch, become stable and be fine after that. My very uneducated guess would be something is up with the ballast, but I have no solid idea. If anyone has any idea as to what causes this shaking and ideas to fix it, I would be very obliged.

Thank you so much!

Sounds like the high voltage section. First thing to do is clean it all off ( with the power removed ) and try restarting it. You'll need to take the case off and clean the high voltage section located by the blue tube. It'll be dusty and black. Once clean look on the red high voltage leads for burn holes. Also when the screws in the boards get loose the projector can do strange things.

Try that and see if you can get it to start up. Also check the digital display on the side when starting up to see which error code(s) are displayed.

Ballast? A CRT has no stinkin' ballast! Very Happy

First off, don't turn the set on and off a bunch of times, that will kill the power supply, and then you have a dead set that can't be fixed.

Shoot a short video, post it on Youtube and link to it here. Shaking is VERY rare on the 12XX series.

Open the cover and look for the grey box with 6 knobs on it. That is your ballast, Smile Note the position of each knob and with the projector turned off turn each knob back and forth a few times and then return it to its original position. This will attempt to clean the internal wiper. See if that helps your problem.

A 1252? In Des Moines, IA? There's a very good chance this is one of my old projectors. Seriously! Very Happy
