My wife and I got up on Saturday morning and made a road trip the Melbourne to catch up with Dave and have a look at his 909 stack. 7 hours later we arrived at Dave's place. Nice part of Melbourne I must say. Met Dave (first time in person) and he is an absolute gentleman. Not having a lot of time we went into the theatre room. The stack was running and the lights were on. The first thing I noticed was the wall to wall screen. I think its about 13 foot wide. Dave has done an unbelievable job at setting up this room. Black cushioned walls and ceiling. Its totally sealed from all light. The computer and amps are setup behind a false wall to hide the lights. The 2 by 909's are mounted in a hush box and you cant here them. Makes me realise how noisy my 919 is. Next Dave shut down the lights and selected a movie. While it takes a few seconds for the movie to start the screen goes black and this theatre room goes cave black. You literally cant see your hand in front of your face. Then the movie starts and the picture just jumps out of the screen. It has so much punch and 3 dimension it's incredible. With the wall to wall screen you are just sucked into the picture. A cut from U571 make you realise how much time has gone into the ASTIG setup. Very sharp. We were sitting only about 3 metres from this huge screen. With the way its set up and a fantastic surround system, Its better than going to the movies. This setup must have an incredible contrast ratio. We could of talked CRT for hours but time was limited.
I can see why people talk so highly of stacking projectors. As good as it is running a stack is, I think what really makes the difference with Dave's setup is the amount time, effort and detail Dave has gone to with this room. Black is defiantly the way to go to produce the best home theatre room.

The wife and I couldn't stop talking on the way home about how good this setup is. We got some ideas to try on our setup as well. Having our setup in the main lounge room I have been told NO to painting the room black. Cant win them all.

Thanks Greg Thumbs Up

Was a pleasure to meet you both, it was sad I have such a hectic work load and was unable to entertain for longer, I do rarely have guests.
Having over someone who appreciates CRT was the bonus for me, it's a great feeling when someone appreciates the time and effort you put into something for a specific purpose.
Kind of reminds me of the first viewing I had of crt from a fellow forum member about 10 years ago. At the time I was searching for digital and a forum member offered to show me his 9pgxtra. Well once he dimmed the lights on put on Monsters inc I was hooked Mr. Green and its been a wonderful experience since.

Cheers
Dave
