I've been working on a full CRT projector setup document that explains everything (almost) from taking it out of the box to having a VERY watchable pix.

I asked Kal to post it, but since it's probably going to be revised a few times, he said to post it here for download/as an attachment for you guys to comment on.

This is the first part, email me directly with changes at curtpalme@shaw.ca and I'll change stuff around as required. The final document will then get posted on the site.

Thanks for your effort. I have two suggestions. One is to change to the first picture about raster set-up. You used a Barco one so that it may mislead some newbies with XGs. Another suggestion is not to use internal test patterns. For example, I used the fine cross hatch to adjust my width-height radio and made a mistake because I thought it should be a square. I was told that by Doug when I asked my set-up question on A site. Regarding the cross hair pattern to adjust toe-in, I remembered my cross hair pattern wan't in the middle obviously when I got it. It needs to be centered before using it to adjust toe-in.

It's missing the critical Service/User Passcode setup for getting into Service mode, to then access Raster Centering.

Also the statement that Position Shift is the fine raster position control is incorrect. Shift moves the image within the raster, not the raster itself. It is used to position the image in the center of the raster.
Fine raster movement is done with Static (keep below 5).

Also Raster Centering is Global, so you set it for your primary res, and use Static on secondary res's.

Lots more could be added about using the corners of the image to do toe-in, and levelling deflection yokes.....god, it could take yonks to get it all in there.

In comparing your instructions with the manual, as a newcomer I would like some more clarification on the bow, skew and linear adjustments and if there are any tricks to performing these adjustments to make it easier. Maybe there are no tricks and it just takes time and practice. Also, details on the ways that memory settings an be utilized and how to apply them to different sources.

I thought you did toe in before Scheimpflu....Oh and it seems very NEC biased....May be worth a cut and paste into a new document with details for other models, eg a barco and a marquee....or extending to point out the differences ???

Also when finished its probably good to publish it as a PDF...
