If it takes an uber-modded CRT with ultra-fast display chain with ultra low noise pipe to enable this depth and transparency, how do you expect to covey this to others via screenshots if we don’t also have uber-modded CRTs that enables such depth and transparency?
It’s not that your sceenshots look bad to me, they just don’t look any more deep, transparent, or deeper blacks than what my basic stock digital display is capable of showing, and I don't see how they ever could?[/quotehttps://www.avforums.com/threads/worldwide-crt-projector-shootout.2000957/page-40
This will show you what they do or dont for you but if your into crt
you are already awhare of this thread. |
That's not really a shoot out thread, when it's only showing the difference between your projector and a few others. And since you have the wrong neck boards on those LUG's tubes, it's really not a fair shoot out at all. Those 9518 with the LUG's would either require LCP tubes or special neck boards that would get you around the terribly soft image. What you seeing with the little sharpness and detail you are getting is the cleaner image the mods produce.
The focus problem you guys mentioned that was a problem after the initial changes did not get better, nor can it get better on it's own. You need to either change out your neck boards or swap out the LUG for the LCP tubes. The only thing that has changed and would change is your color balance, which is normal and can be easily seen in your shots, because your tubes have been breaking in the phosphor. There is no such thing as a CRT getting much sharper after tube break in.

Good to know. I found SEVERAL smaller caps that were starting to leak in the first failed LVPS that I opened up. Nothing catastrophic, but it's due for a recap job.
The bad part is, the caps that have leaked are the smaller ones with the more common values, so that means that the smart thing to do is replace MOST of the caps.
Did you know that there are (if my count is right) not less than 53 electrolytic capacitors in one Marquee LVPS?
That's a lot of time to replace all those.
I think they ALL need to be done because they all have 1997 date codes. They're due.
Am I looking forward to buying the caps to redo three LVPS units? Not especially.
Am I looking forward to doing the replacement of 159 caps? NO.
But I'll do it.
