My Sony 1272 pj displays a 04 error code. Turned it on for the first time and a few seconds later the unit shut off.
What does that mean? Can it be repaired easily?

That code refers to an error called "1K-over". Curt will have to diagnose this one, but I believe it's probably either low-voltage power-supply related or high-voltage power-supply related. Curt will probably know right away what the likely culprit is. He may have spare parts and be able to just swap boards if you're willing to open the machine up and willing to spend a little money.

BTW, these machines were notorious for fans failing - I think there are four of them - and triggering an error code, but I believe that was 01, not 04.

Either way, bummer.

BTW, setup manuals, error codes, and other docs for the 12xx series can be found here:

It's overcurrent in one of the CRTs. Could be a shorted tube, a video output amp, or something else. Sadly, while I have some 12XX boards still, I got rid of all my 12XX chassis, so I can't test or repair any boards at this point.
