You are right, if you can do anything to move the K-D focus coil more toward where it was designed to be, it will
improve performance.
I am hopeful that I can just completely retrofit the whole K-D magnetics stack into a Marquee and thus gain the advantage of
using a magnetic system that was actually designed to work together with optimal efficiency.

I'm not sure if you were trying to say, that ungluing the upper bits of the Marquee deflection yoke can make them significantly shorter? And by doing that squatting the copper windings.
I have a spare set that I just looked at, and it has been on my mind to try it, but it looks to difficult so I wont, but didn't you have a whole box of these things so you could try?

No, do not try to change the shape of the deflection coils. That would not be beneficial, and cause deflection problems.
You don't want to alter the geometry of any coil found in any deflection or focus yoke.
Do what you will to try to make the yokes shorter so they fit closer to where they are designed to, but leave the actual
windings strictly alone. That is my advice.

Mike, for those of us who are interested in doing the pin 7 resistor mod for LUG tubes, can you identify a specific source and part
number for us so we can just order it?
For example, Digi-Key part number ########. Because there are so many different sizes of surface mount resistors,
and TYPES of surface mount resistors, that it'd just be that much easier to get what you know fits and works.
And of course the parts will be surface mount, which will cause some people to question if they can do it. I myself am
very comfortable with surface mount component soldering.

Sorry for hijacking the thread a little, but I was wondering about the Barco 909 focus coils, and this protruding front on them, that has got to be at least 10 mm worth of shaving, does it have to be that wide on the front? It already has the clamp on the back, which could stay knowing it wont matter any more, but this strange front..
And btw, I think this is the actual Barco coils that I bought but they look almost the same as my 1292 Frankenyoke. It will be nonetheless very interesting to see if I can pull off a contest between them.

No. leave that alone. They are not your move-all-the-way-forward coils. You would have to move them along the exposed part of the glass for the best focus. There is no set spot for them

Ok, I wont. But if this is yours, then why are they all the way forward, you hadn't set them yet at the time?

I don't know who that is in the photo, only that you'll need to move them until you find the best focus

Rather than use zip ties to hold those shells together, use the brass hardware from the Thomson focus yoke
you stripped the cables from. You'll have to slightly drill out the holes but you'll like the results a lot better.
No matter what kind of focus yoke it is, there's a spot somewhere on the tube where it works best. Try to put it there
if you can.
You can temporarily remove the convergence yoke from the Thomson deflection/convergence assembly to get more
room to work and find out where your focus yoke wants to be. Of course you will have no convergence while doing this,
but it's just a test to find the best position for the yoke and nothing more. You then will know where your target spot is,
how you get there is up to you.

Oh, those surface mount resistors are size 1206. I bought a hundred today, 4.7 megohms, and it cost me 2 bucks and change.
I'll replace the resistor on pin 7 with these on a few neck cards for evaluation purposes.
The challenging part is that they're right under the grounding plate.
