I recently got hfq900 lenses that where made in/before 2001 with silver stickers but the plastic front, they where a whole lot better than my gt17 lenses on a 110 inch screen. I allready had hfq900 lenses before with the gold stickers they indeed had the same optics (sharp uniform across screen) as my latter but for some unexplainable reason the coating was missing on tne front part. I heared that someone else had the same problem. It led to reflections from corner to corner where characters appeared mirrored. Also the black was better on my latter hfq with the silver stickers. It was an impressive experience giving a transparence and contrast to the picture not seen before. I guess hfq900 made before 2001 where before 3m?

Well it sure stinks that changes were made without changing part numbers... not good!

Yes and maybe they did the same with hd10e? I have never seen the later Marquee hd10e but reports are not so positive and since Mike does not use them I wonder if they are the same as the Barco hd10e also named hfq900. Perhaps a 3m change?

It makes more sense the other way around since someone says the hd10E from marquee are not so good and they where much cheaper than the hfq from Barco. Difficult to believe that Barco hand picked the rejected HD10E and sold them for big money while Marquee got the good quality and sold them cheap

F**k me!
the only good thing that may come of this is that I'll sell the working chassis (I tested them, they are untouched and not torqued.. I'm still not sure how the tubes got smashed) for dirt cheap for someone to upgrade. even the neck boards are late model, but not the very late ones with the different transistors that have bandwidth issues..
Need to fight with the shipper tomorrow, as I'm sure not paying the $1000 bill.. |
Of all CRT projectors, how is it even possible to drop a Marquee hard enough to snap the necks off the tubes. Those things are reinforced better than any other projector. I can't understand it.

What has price to do with it.? The Barco 909/ Cine9 is the most over priced, over speced, troublesome of the top 3 9" crt projectors. So just like the 180Mhz bandwidth, why should anyone believe that barco went thru any trouble for selecting quality lenses, maybe they just picked the big screen lens, the HD10E is as that's was what most of their commercial consumers was using.
Its the lens with the widest range, which is a bad fit for being for a HT screen size, where the GT17 specs and the new HD10L is perfectly centered in the focus range for a 110" screen, And I have seen tests where the GT17 and HD10L has been ranked above the HD10E for HT use.
My thoughts are just as valid as promoting the hfq900 based on rumors.
That is why I have stayed with HD10L.

I only know the gt17 and two types of the hfq900 but I also had the hd144 and hd145 in the past. I have seen enough lenses to know that on my screen 110 inch it does not get better than the hfq900 I have now. And the hd144 where good to on my Runco. Very accurate colours!

Why don't you let people be happy with their CRT what ever the model is. You qualification of the 909 is very far off and a lot of people are very happy with it. The Marquee is a nice CRT too. The only point where it is better than the 909 is the video and that does contribute a little to sharpness. All in all there are lots of things that make a CRT good not just the brand. If the owner loves it and does a good setup it will be a picture others enjoy too.

Good image! Little yellow to the left in the blue or is it the picture? When you read back you will see that I think it is very well possible that HD10 L newer version is good too. Shall we duscuss something else?

I definitely need to try a few lenses, probably on the one NOS marquee that made it to me intact. I only know that there are shiny HD10Ls, the original ones from the mid 1990s, and then the newer (mine are 2006), with the dull/matte barrels. Where the difference came into play is anyone's guess. I did notice that on at least one HD10L that I have from 2006, the lens stickers still say Delta lenses, so that would be pre-Canadian made as per Tim's notes above. I run a 96" wide screen in the shop, so the defocusing of an 'old' HD10L will be obvious, therefore any change in an HD10L should also be obvious.
When I have time, I'll update, probably in a different/new thread.

Guys
I had requested some empty lens boxes from VDC Florida in the 2008-09 time frame, and they had Elcan labels on them; that is all I am sure of.
