Yes, that's exactly right. The digital lags behind the CRT image ever so slightly, completely blurring out motion. That's why serious gamers like CRT displays, because there is no lag at all.

Doesn't something like the 'lip-sync' function in a/v receivers, to sync the audio to the video, exist for video? If you know what I mean: both to a different video scaler/processor, give the digital 1 or 2 ms of delay and see what happens..

That would probably work to some degree, but I don't have a multi output video processor/delay unit. Delaying audio is easy, video is more complex and expensive.

So here's a good one, how good are the people here at diagnosing?
So I fire up the digital and the one aligned 909 last night. For some reason the Sim2 glitched, and I had to unplug the projector and plug back in to get the HDMI to work on it. I futzed around with the projector, but got it going. It's mounted on one of those cheap Chinese mounts from ebay, so there is wobble on the bracket as soon as you touch the projector. I managed to knock it way off the screen, so careful repositioning brought it back on the screen. I then turned on the 909, and to my dismay, the whole image was out of whack, both in a H and v direction. Not a big deal methinks, I used a bit of raster shift to align it on top of the digital again.
The image was still off all around, so I spent some time aligning the horizontal, cursing at the Barco for being bitchy. As soon as I'd aligned the horizontal and looked at the screen, I realized that I was an idiot, and the Barco actually didn't need aligning. What did I do?

Nope. Something more simple than that... Hint: I don't have a remote for the SIM2 (but I just ordered one)

You forgot to reset the digital projectors Keystone?

I had 2 Panasonic PT-D3500U digitals setup out at my projector rummage sale last summer in a stack, one projector was fine, the other I could not get the image to line up with the first Panny, I spent over 2 hours tinkering with settings and repositioning the projector, only to discover the HIDDEN linearity setting had been severely adjusted on one projector, throwing the whole image off. After I found that and reset it, it took about 3 minutes to finish setting the stack up.
One setting, 2 hours later... Sounds about right!

Mine was even more basic. In turning on the digital and then screwing with the nonworking HDMI input, I managed to hit the 'zoom' button, just enough to very slightly shrink the image of it. Oops! IN my frustration to get the SIM working, I thought the Barco had drifted.

So I aligned the second 909 last night to the digital. I ordered a remote for the SIM2, as the cheap Chinese bracket shifts ever so slightly when I power the damn thing up. Strangely, since I retweaked the sets and used minimal zone convergence, the drifting is a lot less than before, that's for sure, but I need to still dive into the first one to get rid of the bottom corner anomaly. Still, the digital by itself looks flat, but comes to life when firing up one Barco over top of it. The punch out of all three sets on is insane, that's for sure.

How will dark scenes look like with a hybrid ?
So Curt you would say that a single CRT is lame ?

This surely depends on the screen, white screen even with a slight hint of ambient light already needs light cannon , and the ambient rejecting screens of today are over-ambitious mostly.
