|
|
I'm not sure if this is public knowledge, but I finally figured out what causes a bunch of Barcos, specifically the 1208/1209/1209s to have a sine wave wiggle towards the left side of the screen. THe horizontal scanning lines have a slight sine wave to them, usually in the far left 10% of the screen. I spent a few hours swapping boards to no avail a few years back, and I gave up.
I was at a customer's place on Tuesday, and he had a horrendous squiggle, so I decided to set up a 1209s here again, and it also had the same issue, so I dove in.
I changed the V board, H shift/focus board and H output board (as I had years ago), and no change.
I then directed my attention to the yoke board, not thinking it was related in any way, but indeed it was.
Each one of those yoke boards has several large whitish 5 watt power resistors on it that stand up vertically on the board. There's no support for them, so they bounce around, and with most of these sets having been moved many times, I found that the resistors snap off at the bottom, where the resistor meets the PC board. While my test set was on, I wiggled each resistor, and found one that had a broken connection. Looking at the test grid, I touched the resistor base to the PC board trace, and that squiggle instantly cleaned up.
Whether you replace the resistor, or simply tack it back onto the board using the existing resistor is your call. Maybe a drop of hot glue will give it better support, but if your set is permanently installed, then tacking the resistor connection back together will probably last the life of the set.
Taking the board out is a bit of a PITA, so worst case, take it off its screw mounts, and that will give you a few inches of room to work with the board.
Ya learn something new every day..

What is the cause of this on a Cine 9?

Yep, would be that same arrogant **** that has given many hours of his free time and helped out so many people on this same forum too. The same one you told a couple weeks ago you dont believe he really knows anything. The very same one that seems to have solved a couple Barco issues for others that no one else could ( or would, surely someone else knew the answer... )
Not only would i do that if indeed i had another one spare, but im thinking of trading the Barco on a 4600...

Case, I have 2 XG's, ( 1 x 1350 and 1 x 75), spare tubes and quite a few spare boards. more than happy to swap for the Cine 9.

Yep, fair chance i could fix it, given the time. I have recently started a new career and have no real spare time to be doing much of anything else. I have recently ceased all video game and arcade machine repairs and mods, and id expect itll be at least 18 months before i resume any normal activity.

It just comes on a bit green. I think its only the green tube. It takes 15 to 20 minutes to settle. Its a shame as the tube has no burn in at all. Don't you have a spare green tube?

Not a wear free one, but i have a couple worn ones. If you reckon the Barco has that much better an image over the XG id say there is more wrong with it than just the green tube.
Its irrelevant anyway, im far too busy.

I do indeed, i know what my XG852 LC can do, and its not far behind my Cine 9. I can get scanlines visible clearly at 1080p, and its ultra sharp.
