In case you had not heard, the Lumagen HDP has been reduced to $1199. That's brand new folks!

This is now clearly the best deal in video processors out there.

MSRP $1199
Options:
- Dual SDI inputs $400
- BNC outputs $100

Great price!

I read that Lumagen had an issue with the manufacturer using lead or some other similar material, so they chose to discontinue the HDP instead of changing the design and mfg process.

The HDQ is still $1999.

Just curious: What was the old price?

Old price of the HDP was $1499 before options. This will be the best deal until the Gefen scalers come out - and then we'll see.

We'll see. From their comments, they are clearly targeting their scalers at the home market--that is RPTVs and flat screens that can only do 60 Hz refresh and such.

I expect the Lumagen to still have some better options on some things.

Been going to HDQs lately anyways but this was a needed price break. The support and updates still make them first choice to deal with. Doug

But if Clarence is correct and they have decided to discontinue the HDP, there won't be any support or updates will there?

The updates for the HDP, HDP Pro, and HDQ are the same files:

Oh, I didn't know that - but that's great news.

One of their chief competitors has a bad habit of stopping all upgrades once a new product is announced.

So now the watch is on to see how low the market drops for the HDP.

Thanks Clarence

What was the issue with using lead or some other similiar material?

What sucks for us Canucks is that the Canadian dealer cost is within 5% of US list! I've stopped selling them as a result. DVDO is no better, some of those cutthroat eBay resellers do the same thing.

I've talked to Jim Peterson about this, and he will call the CDN distributor, but there's not much he can do if they don't keep up with the dropping USD. I still love the Lumagen product, but not being able to make a BIT of profit stinks.

Not sure, exactly. But I know that "lead free" hard drives are an option slowly being gobbled up for high end computer servers by some companies. I think it's something to do with "lead free" hard drives being more environmentally friendly.

yes most new elecronics have to be rohc compliant. anyone who has been looking for parts on electronic sites for the marquee maintanence thread will notice that many parts have new rohc part numbers which are lead free.
