Does anyone know how we could down rez the new 4k bluray 4k to 1080i/p for CRT projectors? Even though the resolution is lower I would like to take advantage of the higher color depth and down rez benefits.

UHD BD will have better color-depth, encoded with high bitrates and better codec, so even downrezed, it should look better than regular bd outputted to 1080i.

Yes it will, even if only the 4:2:0 color sampling is changed to 4:4:4, every display can make advantage of that, ditto for color depth.

No, the whole Rec. 2020 color space thing was also laid in the UHD standard, which implies the option of the wider gamut, and the 4:4:4 color subsampling as well.

It would be better to have 4K interlaced.

But why??? Its not 4096 wide, its only 3840, so why bother with 4k at all?

Have you seen specs set in stone to indicate this? My monitor supports that, but will source devices use it?

4k blu ray is 4:2:2
I had a 2nd gen Panasonic plasma 480p and I can tell you that 1080i looked hugely better than 480p sources. I don't feel like spending 10k on a 4k digital that may not even be compatible with 4k content.

I haven't kept up that much, but even with a wider color gamut how are you planning on displaying the wider color gamut on a CRT?

4K interlaced on CRT to have full resolution and saving bandwidth.

If the signal is 4:2:2 and the hdmi to vga adapter works I would think that the color primaries would have better transition with more steps and color resolution. But will any of the adapters or players even output 1080 anything?

Ill ask you again, why do you want to display 4096x2160 when the UHD format is only 3840x2160??
What is being discussed is NOT 4K anything at all, it is UHD, and the two are vastly different.
I know that Samdung are wanking off calling their sh*t 4K incorrectly, but its not, its only UHD, and comsumers all over the world a just about thick enough to think its the same thing.
Either way, have you actually tried to display 3840x2160i on your Barco?? Because i dont reckon youll be happy with it. The 2160 lines wont be so bad interlaced, but if you think its not going to choke serverely on 3840 pixels wide, you got another thing commin.
As for saving bandwidth... You dont have enough for 1920x1080, so what makes you think youll fit in 3840x1080???

852x480p to be exact. In the late 1990s and early 2000s they sold them as 'EDTVs'.

Oh i see! I never have seen one that low over here, they were starting at 1280x1024 with stretched pixels here.
