Case,

this is the very small board in the back of the Cine9 right behind the middle fan.

If this board fails the projector turns on but after a few seconds it will shut down with the message "fan failed".


Maybe you cannot see the message on the screen ?

There is no messages, and it hasnt stored any diagnostics. Did you have a log in the diagnostics when that occured?

You should have that on your CineMax too Case. Last two options when in service menu are voltage diagnostics and projector diagnostics. Under projector diagnostic, you'll find a log of the last five shut-downs, with the reason and projector run-time at the moment the problem occured. Check if the option is there with both controllers.

Its there, but no reason is given and no logs since about 500 hours ago

Do you have more spare boards to exchange? Try to run the PJ without any sources attached, just run it on internal patterns.
After 10 min as you say open front and back lid to see if you can find some sort of behavior when it shuts down.
