Hey guys,

I have a 160" 16:9 screen I am trying to use with a G70 in a room with limited space. In an effort to fill the horizontal width I have elevated the rear of the projector. It works but it seems the focus is out of whack. I know all the install guides stress the unit must be dead flat and perpendicular to the screen but that is not an option in the room unless I sacrifice screen real estate..

Could someone please tell me if there's a combination of scheimpflug/spacer/mechanical adjustments etc that will allow a CRT to work at a non standard angle ?

Elevating the rear of a CRT projector is probably the ideal situation as your keystone will at a minimum, I assume you have it table mounted correct?
Whereabouts in Melbourne are you?

It should dial in just fine, no spacers needed. Follow the manual, it's well written, and Sony Scheimpflug is easy to adjust.

160 inch screen with a G70 ? As much as I loved my G70 I wouldn't go over 110 inch, its gotta be dim at that size,maybe with 2 and that's iffy But one ? Good luck though.

I have 2 909's stacked on a 160 inch screen, my screen has 2 gain and i can tell you its just bright enough. When i switch one of the pjs off, its way too dim, unwatchable actually. So unless you have a really high gain screen im not sure how you're going to pull that off.

Hey guys, Thanks all for the replies.

It's floor mounted as I only have 2700mm ceilings. Are you a CRT tech Dave as I would consider paying for someone to help me get the set up right(It's installed near Inverloch). I know the guides say don't go that big but the brightness is actually a lot better than I was expecting. Very watchable with a bit of gamma boost.

The poor focus has me stumped. I previously ran it on a 4:3 80" screen and could see scan lines at ~1400x960p. With the bigger screen the unit is set back another 1-1.5 metres but the sharpness has declined drastically. The dots on the H pattern are barely visible. I have redone the electronic and mechanical adjustments but it still feels sub optimal. Would increasing the resolution to 1920 x 960 be impacting the sharpness ?

Also wondering to fill the tube face is it better to push the zone to the edge of the phosphor then extend to match the zone via the RGB controls or should I keep the zone smaller and extend the RGB over the edge of the zone ?

You want to lower the rear to reduce keystone if it is ceiling mounted, but id have to guess youve got it on the floor or a table. If youre on a table, you may as well get it to zero degrees by rasing the back til the lenses are aimed dead center, it will quite likely show you how to do that in the manual in the rear projection part.

Thats a lot of screen for that machine...

I had my Marquee 8000( first CRT) on a 159" diagonal 16x9 that Craig Rounds calibrated when i first got into CRT. It was plenty bright for me in My Bat Cave and even Craig thought it looked pretty good on that huge screen.

My Blend is only marginally brighter by a few ftl.
