I just picked up 2 Barco SEOS projectors. I knew 1 was an 808s and looked used but they were not sure what the second one was. So I went and got them. It is an 808s as well but looks to be new. (I was hoping it was a 909). The controls are missing so I am not sure if I can see if they work.
I will get them onto the bench later and remove the lens and see what the tubes are like. From what I have read they are the mec tubes. Are these units usable for home if I can get a remote?

Nice pickup.
In terms of their use for HT there is some information about that but you should just try them out. SEOS played with the geometry for curved screens and also did a lot of custom work so who knows. It should be obvious when you fire them up if they are going to be OK for a flat screen. Just check out the geometry, convergence and focus controls.
Where are you located?

Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg
Under the cover that says "SEOS" there is an inbuilt hard wired remote. It has all the same functions of the wireless one. So you can start stop and control the projector from there. Just lift the cover.

Hi,
There are no controls under the flap. The wired controller is missing from both units.

Well thats a bummer. They can be setup to simply start without a remote but you can't adjust anything. Short of getting a remote I am not sure what you could do. They may have been controlled via the RS232 port.
Just noticed in one of your pictures that the remote is not there.
Where did they come from??

I just had a play with the one in the broken box. (not the new looking one) Switched it out of stdby with the dip switch. Plugged it in and the unit fires up. It has eht and all leds are green Next step will be to get on the bench and put a signal into it. I hope they are switched to port 5. If the tubes are good I will chase a remote.

Youll need a remote either way, the brand new one will be the only one worth setting up, the used one is good for parts unless its got new tubes.
What was the other projector youve got there?

Hi Case,
I will set the new one up when I get a remote. Just playing with the older one to learn about Barco projectors.
I picked these 2 Barco's up not knowing what one of them was. They only sent me pictures of the one in the broken Barco box. The other one was taped up. I was hoping it might of been a 909 coming from a Planetarium but no such luck.
They have HD8 RevB lens. I will remove the lens from the new looking one tomorrow and see what the tubes are like.

You definitely need a remote, both SEOS and Runco pulled stuff out of Barcos (Runco pulled out the composite video function) to save costs.
I have a feeling that with a remote, these will power up fine, and be a good D808s. They are MEC tubes, as the G2 board has no focus wires going to the tubes, which makes them a non Sony projector, but it does have the better video boards in it, so it should be a D808s. Get a remote (I've got universals) and see whatcha got! Also pull the convergence tray, you probably have the convergence on green board, so you could stack these if you want for fun.

Thanks Curt,
I will have a Barco remote next week. I will check for the Green convergence board. I cant believe how quite these things are compared to the XG. Are these upgradeable to 9 inch LC like the 8500 Marquee's? Or is it a totally different chassis?
Greg.

I just had a good look at the older one. Red and Blue tubes have no ware. The green has some ware that is even. I have only looked through the lens with a torch at this stage. I fired it up and put a signal into port 5. I have a picture but it is very green. It seems that the red and blue drive are turned way down. The red and blue have a lot of noise on the screen but the green is clean.
When the young feller gets home I will get the new looking one out of the box and see what it is like.

You won't fit 9" tubes directly in that chassis but it can be done.

They may be quiet, but the XG is more capable.

The New looking one fires up as well. Its not new as there is a very faint 4/3 ware on the green tube. You can hardly see it. How white are the faces of the tubes. its like piano white phosphor. I will wait for the remote and try setting the newer one up.

Are you sure you're not feeding component into the RGB input? That will give a VERY green picture!

Thanks Curt, I didn't check that on the VP30. I was running component into the VP30. I will have another go.
