I sent you a PM with where to find that information.

You dont need to set contrast at 49, set it where ever you like. You should probably adjust for 17v at 1920x1080p 60Hz if thats what youre using most of too.

Thanks Case,
I am playing with 817p at this stage. I will check everything today.
I am going to have a play with 1080i@96. I haven't been able to get this to work on any of the 4 projectors I have. From what I have been reading I think I need to drop the input of the VP50 to 1080i to get 1080i@96 out. I have been trying to get this to work with 1080p@24 into the VP50. I loose sync around 85hz when stepping up the frame rate.

Try doing that resolution with a PC instead of the scaler.

1080i 72Hz is a pointless exercise, so i wouldnt even bother trying it.

Why not try 1920x1080p 48Hz?

I stuffed up on the mechanical alignment somehow. The red tube was 5mm closer to the green than the blue. So I realigned the rasters and redid the toe in. I then did the alignment at 1080p@48. The alignment was very easy compared with 817p.
Put on a blu-ray and this thing produced a picture that blew my socks off. No smearing at all and razer sharp. Just amazing.
I will post some screen shot shortly

Much better on the Barco than it was on the XG. No smearing at all. Very impressed with the Barco.

Must be serious issues with that XG, or you used the wrong timings!! If i could put P19s in my XG id never bother with my Cine 9 again...

I don't think there is anything wrong with the XG. I think it maybe more the VP50/XG combo that is the problem.
The VP50/Barco combo works very well. didn't need to play with timings except to adjust the left side of the screen.

You need correct timings for the XG, and it WILL blow that Barco away, assuming it is working correctly. Its a more capable machine, especially where sharpness and convergence are concerned.

The NEC is very sharp but I will say with Hi res tubes and the HD145 lens the Barco is every bit as sharp. The convergence is not as good but it really doesn't need any further adjustment. The Barco is a bit brighter and has better gamma and much more depth. The picture is also cleaner. This could be the new Moome card. At this stage I have a fantastic picture and very little fan noise. Very happy with the Barco.

The Vertical card is has surface mount parts as well as the video cards. Is this standard on the 808s? Board number is R762808.

Ermmm... Say what??? The high res tubes??? Did you buy Greg Eisemann sim grade tubes??? The P16s in the XG are about as good as they get, theyre a better tube than the 08 variant Sony used in the G70, and theyre better than the tubes Barco used from the factory.

Unless some clown molestered your XG to take the 08 variant of the P16s then the only way up from the factory XG 06/07 tubes is the ones from Greg.

Mark AW stated why the 06/07 tubes are better than the 08s, and his word is the foremost on XGs as far as im concerned.

Hey id be happy to take that XG with the clap off your hands if you like. Ill be more than happy with those nice 6 pole astig magnets, perfect lens flapping rings, nice looks, and the best convergence/geometry around... If youre not happy with it, ill be happy to give it a better home Wink

This'll put the cat amongst the pigeons... This was said to me a number of years ago by a member i wont name, vastly more experienced than we are though...

"Just some food for thought, with Moome's HDMI card, running 1080p 60Hz, the 991 resolves 1080p 60Hz better than my G90 or a Marquee 9500 Ultra. The later NEC projectors really are fantastic machines in terms of sharpness. G90 is also sharp, but not quite as sharp. However, the G90 is about twice as bright as the 991"

The 991 is ofcourse the RUNCO DTV991, usually an XG 852. You wont be interested in hearing what that same person had to say about Barco. If that Barco of yours is beating your XG, either something is wrong with the machine or the setup, what you have there is about equal to a PG XTRA Wink

Are you sure there is not something wrong with your Cine9. It should blow your XG away.

No nothing wrong with it, other than the usual Barco issues that plague them all... I seem to have gotten every bit as much out of mine as anyone else here ever did.

Im not saying it doesnt beat my XG, but it sure as sh*t doesnt beat it in all ways, its brighter than the XG by a fair bit, and its every bit as sharp, but since i redid the XG its VERY hard to tell the difference between the two. Theyre both LC, both have about simular contrast ratio, and with those P19LUG tubes / HFQ900 lenses it would smoke the Cine 9. The NEC is by far a better built machine, better engineered, its more stable, its WAY more reliable...

If your 808 is that much better than youre claiming from the XG, then something aint right.

What I am saying is its every bit as good as the XG in sharpness. The picture has far less noise and more depth on the Barco. Much smoother picture. I think most of this comes from the new Moome card. I only had a HD fury2 on the NEC. The biggest problem with the XG is the green tube takes about 20-25minutes to settle. I replaced it only 18 months ago. It still a 10 with no burn in at all. Maybe an internal Moome card would make the XG look a lot better. The XG is on the bench and ready to be played with. At this stage I am happy with the Barco for now.
